From the Golden Era of bodybuilding, when Bodybuilders goals were health and strength and aesthetics. You'll notice that only two of these title winners had 18" arms.

I still enjoy keeping up with the best of the best of the open division but more and more I find myself watching and following Classic Physique and 212. Everyone looks too bloated now-a-days.

And most of them are short shits too. You can see what PEDs have done. Short shits being the guys under 5'10". Sincerely, Tall A-Hole @ 6'1"

It's not an attractive look. The look that really bugs me these days is the 20 year olds on roids with big arms, chest, shoulders, but skinny necks, forearms, no traps. Basically all the muscle you'd normally build if you actually got strong. They look like if you put 305 on the squat bar they'd snap the fuck in half.

I notice none of them had the fabled 50" chest either. Nothing against them meant, though.

Lots of genetics going on if you look at that. The smallest wrist is 7 inches on a 5'7" guy. Only three under 7.5 inches in the whole list. I've yet to see the program to grow a larger frame.
I'm 6'1" and just measured my wrist 6 7/8 I don't have a frame to support large amounts of muscle. I'm ok with being lean and strong - and it's a good thing I am because without 'roids, I won't pile on muscle. After 35 years of lifting, I'd have it if it was meant to be.

And it has its ways, I gain mass faster and because im short it's easier for me to look big but I also gain fat quickly.

My Dad used to hang out at Ed Yarick's Gym in Oakland and met a couple Mr. America dudes from that era. Here's a picture of Jim Parks, circa 1952, who was a Mr. America. Pretty typical of how they looked then. Bill Pearl, though, had more mass. Don't have a picture of him but my Dad knew him when Bill lived in Sacramento. host images

You and your father also knew and were friends with Tommy Kono, Olympic powerlifting legend and former Mr. Universe.

Personally, I think the best built guy of all time was John Farbotnick:
