Wanted to become a FDNY Fireman and had to take the toughest physical qualifying test ever given by the FDNY Left my oil refinery roustabout job in CA to move back to NYC for this You not only had to pass, but it was a "competitive" test and the higher you scored the better your final mark The hardest test events were : A 1 mile run An obstacle course which included an 8 foot wall and a 5 foot wall A 120 lb canvas dummy lift and carry upstairs, down a hallway and back down to the starting point A 2 minute hang in the top of a pullup position and you were scored until your arms straightened out Fail any of these main events and you were done ! And other events as well Competition was very stiff as about 15,000 people took the test I trained very hard running and training in the snow and ice of a tough winter and was rewarded by scoring high enough to be appointed to the 2nd class on the hiring list And just stayed with it after that That makes me think back to when I was 19 and I joined the Territorial Army, I was in the Royal Fusiliers it kept me fit back then.

Didn't we all ? I didn't, I suppose I am one of the lucky ones, I have never had any problems attracting females.

I wanted to try karate when I was around 12 or 13. I realised I didn't really like it pretty quickly but wanted to do something. My dad suggested weights so I got a small York set, I would train on my bedroom using the chart that came with it. I then tried a gym, my first session they had me doing multiple srts, high volume and I remember being so wiped out I could not press the empty bar on inclines. I really thing that ridiculous introduction did not help anything. I then found out one of my Mum's friend's husband was opening a small gym in a double garage at the end of my backstreet. I tried it and it was a great place, the guy who ran it was a British champion powerlifter and I stuck with him through various gyms and maybe 20 years, meeting and getting to train with members of the Britiah Powerlifting team. A great experience and good memories.

I was also skinny as a rail. Honestly, the reason I started was to attract girls. That goes without saying. Did it work? Listen, not everyone can be a natural like Mr. Average. So I would say it helped in my mind, .

the higher you scored the better your final mark That borders on Einstein. Well in theory it does, relatively speaking.

When I first met my wife, I was dressed in leather and she had my helmet in her hand.
