Very good article.
The cost of getting lean is why is why we have so many land whales wandering around. Most can’t, or are unwilling to pace the price.

As usual focus on strength and health ; physique changes are a mere side effect of that focus . Of course, I could be wrong .

I agree and have always advocated to train for athleticism and the body appearance benefits will tag along for the ride. This assumes, of course, that dietary discipline is stellar. The link does mention the “costs” of lower bodyfat and people need to decide if they want a boner or be a loner.

"want a boner or be a loner" -- this should be on a t-shirt!

I think it is worth getting visible abs at least once. You learn a lot. What it has taught me:
1. You're fatter than you think. When you think you're 5 pounds away from a six pack -- double or triple your estimate.
2. You're less muscular than you think. If you're natural you'll have to accept that your arms will shrink down as you get leaner.
3. You'll look small in clothes.
4. Performance goes downhill once you've get down to a certain level.
5. You'll likely look a bit gaunt.

I’m currently on a mission to get leaner and it’s all about disciplined and precision eating at a slight calories deficit. If you really don’t want to lose any weight, leaning out is tough and best achieved with a longer time span and a progressive resistance workout plan. Can’t be swinging them little pink dumbbells and have to work the “wheels” just as hard, if not harder, than the northern half. Riding the exercise bike or BW squats isn’t enough in my opinion.
