You left out some kind charge of direct misogyny Alan. That's very trendy nowadays. You wouldn't want code pink to make up a Alan OldStudent blimp now would you? Might not be too bad if they let me paint a white beard, mustache, and a kippah on it.

Don't blame those in government for their inhumane policies. It's their genetics : Selfish Genes .

Eternal be the memory of oppressed and martyred natives. Happy holiday for current inhabitants who work towards justice and peace. Well said! We all should come together and work for the good of all.

Eternal be the memory of oppressed and martyred natives. Happy holiday for current inhabitants who work towards justice and peace. And a salute to the enslaved Africans who worked in cotton and tobacco. Their work created the basic economic foundation of the new nation. Yes, my fellow Americans, our country has slavery, genocide, and ethnic cleansing as a foundation. Well said!

Adam Smith's Invisible Hand continues to persist for the perceived good for all I musta missed somethin'. I hadn't noticed any perceived good coming from Adam Smith's hand for the last century and change.

I was surprised how entrenched Eugenics has been in the US, especially pre-WW2 stretching right back. Academic courses on the subject in universities, govt and state policies directly related to eugenics.
I have a copy of a file of around 90 names of the Advisory Council Of The American Eugenics Society of 1935, most of them professors and doctors, a few religious leaders.
German and American eugenicists corresponded freely at least in the 30s, some Nazi war criminals after the war asserting they learned their racial superiority ideas from the Americans. Henry Ford was certainly a proponent of it, writing his anti-jewish propaganda in his newspaper The Dearborn Independant. Hitler (1938 Times magazine Man Of The Year) and Ford admired each other, Ford receiving one of the German Eagle-type awards from Hitler in I think the same year, at least the highest award from the Nazi system possible awarded to a non-German citizen.
After the war when the general public became aware of how far Hitler had taken eugenics, American eugenics supporters hurried to distance themselves from the horror that a twisted psychopath had brought upon the world with their help and encouragement, gypsies and other "inferior" racial types being slaughtered by the millions along with the Jews in a dreadful and systematic manner with the aid of IBM's Hollerith machines and punchcard technology.
IBM's CEO, Watson and a few other American industrialists were photographed with Hitler in 1937 (google Watson of IBM sitting with Hitler in 1937) and IBM's involvement with Hitler and his Final Solution is an eternal blot on the American eugenicists and on American corporate business-as-usual policies that enabled the Nazis to single out those that were classed by their race, with such ruthless efficiency.
It is my opinion that there must have been many persons in America and Britain, both eugenicists, military and corporate who knew what was going on in the 30's even before the war, Hitler starting his first camps within months of coming to power in 1933. The camps numbered in the hundreds throughout Europe during the war, and must have been passed by/photographed by fast recon aircraft dozens of times. Yet it was kept from the bulk of the public until the latter stages of WW2, a horrible secret that we are reminded of whenever some hick neo-Nazi group starts up or marches down the street.
When we celebrate our special days of our respective countries, it is well to remember what was commonplace not so long ago, even if we ourselves, had we lived in those times, would never have followed the ones that had a hand in casting such a terrible shadow over our lands and histories.
