On August 31, 2018 I reported to pierinifitness bootcamp with me as the drill sergeant. Despite having over 25 years of being fit and at a good weight, a hiccup allowed me to drop my guard and it wasn’t long before I experienced weight gain and fitness erosion. I made a business decision that day, weighing 210.8 lbs. that I was going to fix my problem.
Ten months later, I’m averaging 172 lbs. and hit my target weight range of 172-177 lbs. on February 20th, one day after my 64th birthday.
How did I do it?
Intermittent fasting programmed for a 1.5 lb. per week weight loss.
I train doing pull-ups and chin-ups, bar dips, kettlebells complex workouts, running and walking.
Because I sit for a living, my workouts must be challenging and significant to balance things out.
I don’t train to make my muscles bigger but for cardiovascular conditioning and strength endurance.
I'm guided by a couple factors. First, I have a virtual training partner who serves as my coach and mentor. We work together to keep each other focused, on-task and chasing the fitness, health and wellness goals meaningful to us. I'm grateful for Michael who is my younger fitness brother from a different mother and my virtual training partner.
Another factor is that I made a promise at the start of my current journey that I wasn't going to let anyone sabotage my effort of reclaiming what I had "misplaced" and I've kept true to my promise.
Finally, in my current journey I've been guided by these four powerful affirmation words - DESIRE, DISCIPLINE, PATIENCE and PERSERVERANCE. These words were powerful when I had a ways to go. They’re just as powerful now because while I've achieved my initial goals, I have new ones, equally challenging and when I seem far away from achievement or doubtful that I will , I chant these words to myself.
One other final comment, I'm grateful for where I'm at and don't take it for granted because I know it can all be taken away from me in a heartbeat. Therefore, I've made a promise to be available to all others who need encouragement and support in their fitness, health and wellness journeys.
Hope to make more progress as I approach the one year anniversary in a couple months of my current fitness, health and journey and, if I can remember, I'll share here.
