I used to do HS pushups against a door and got pretty strong at them and lately i've decided to start doing them again Now though,it's been a few years since I was doing them and i need a little help doing a full range HS Pushup In my garage I've rigged up a set-up like this guy is using and hang a ratcheting cargo strap from the rafters to which the band is attached This way I can adjust the height fairly easily I'm really enjoying doing them and this week will lower the strap a few inches increasing the difficulty

Since I'm hardheaded, I should also get back to handstand pushups .

Much respect billfish. I spent time about a dozen years ago doing handstand push-ups against the wall and got fairly good at them. Much harder your way because of the need to stabilize.
You’ve planted a future seed for me. I’m concentrating on bar dips now but HSPU may be s next semester push project.

I continue to be impressed with the antics Billfish gets up to in the course of his day (or night).
Along with his training with gymnastic rings, handstand pushups always command respect from this bloke.
Not bad for someone in his mid-sixties who behaves like a young 40-year-old.
Not to mention Pierini and Gruntbrain ( I did mention them).

Looks like a good idea, BF. Like macky said, you're impressive.

Nice Billfish! I used magazines stacked up against a wall when I worked up to doing them. I would remove one every couple of workouts. That's a nice idea with the strap and band. I wish I would've known about that in the past.

I too went thru the HSPU phase years ago and enjoyed it. Since I’ve been in an Isometric state of mind for a couple years now, maybe I should go back to doing ISO holds for time that way...thanks for bringing them back to attention.

doomfarer1, I remember you posting HSPU workouts at the old BB forum, what was your username there? Atlas something?

Man I haven't done handstand pushups for a long time.
I was never brilliant at them but I got to a point where I was doing sets of 20 something on each set.
I used do them facing the wall and facing away from the wall.
A good exercise.

Michael i found the video on Youtube when i was trying to figure out how I could do assisted HSPUs In the past, I've also done what you mentioned, but this way I can get a full range of motion while building up strength to move on to unassisted HSPUs

Could you explain how "... magazines stacked up against a wall ..." and "... remove one every couple of workouts ..." helps you to progress to unassisted (unsupported?) HSPUs?

Mikey It limits your range of motion as far as how deep you can go so you don't smash into the floor
