Ran across this last night -- fun to see Gold's from the 70s/80s and the trainers back then, so, I ended up putting on Pumping Iron afterwards for around 30 min before passing out. 5150 went on the stereo this morning and pulled the iron out for a while:

Great video! From Gold's Gym glory days. I believe that was Ken Waller in there as well as Arnold. Those were the days when top bodybuilders still looked somewhat human. I saw a video of a guy who worked out there during those golden years and he now lives in a trailer parked in the gym's parking lot and works out everyday, reliving those glory years. One thing about that video, though, is that it fueled my increasing urge to want to pump rubber and iron. I have to remain steadfast for another 8 weeks.

He was discussed on the Zen in the Art Forum before, but if you like that video, Ric Draisin's YouTube channel is worth looking into to hear the stories of how they did things at Gold's in the glory days.

Waller...I turned off Pumping Iron a few minutes after the segment where he'd won the Mr. U and Mike Katz was allegedly thrown off looking for his T-shirt with his crusher last night. Even now, I wonder how Waller could have beaten not only Katz but Robby Robinson (IMHO, one of the uncrowned Mr. Os) or the late Paul Grant. If you saw his pictures in the magazines from back then, he was lifting some big iron but just didn't have the "look" (genetics) of his peers. I remember this photo and thought I'm going to do that one day...but you can see, Waller's got fairly short triceps:
