Whenever I go for my annual physical I like to joke around with my doctor. This is the only time my doctor sees me unless I have a serious injury. This time I asked him a serious question instead of joking around. I asked him what was his recommendation on diet. Just curious, what recommendations on diet have Your doctors given You? Like what kind of diet?

My doctor looks at my measurements and vitals and just says "Whatever you are doing, keep doing it".

My doctor says the same. Just decided to see what he recommends to others. It's kind of weird how they change their recommendations over time.

Most doctors have four hours of nutritional study in eight years of school. I would listen to your doc and supplement whatever is said with your own study.

What MDs have been traditionally taught starting around the beginning of the 20th century, and especially during and after WWII, is disease control/symptom control, not health or nutritional/dietary support for the body. Medical colleges are basically educational systems for drug salespeople (MDs). I see this changing as I notice more and more conventional MDs who actually care about other humans, (or want to capitalize on a fad - there is always that danger to be wary of in anything, if something becomes lucrative) that are going in a holistic direction which would include understanding nutrition and diet as foundational to health.

My last two visits were with a nurse practitioner, six months apart, part of a company-sponsored health program.
My experience is a lot like others on this forum; with regard to my high protein/fat diet, she said there was no reason in the world to change. I don't, and never have, taken a prescription drug, and she said I was in a very small minority, and again advised to keep exercising and dieting as I have.

It is probably easier to get an audience with the Pope than see my doctor. When I was down with the flu last year, I tried to book an appointment and they said the next available one was in three weeks. Of course by then, the flu would have passed. We have a nurse at work and she did a quick checkup a couple of weeks ago. Blood pressue and oxygen levels are good but I do need to get into the doctor for a well-man where they do blood and urine tests. I'll do this in the summer holidays.
