Over the years I've done a lot of squats I go deep, but I have a lot of forward lean. My femur's are very long, so I expect that I would have a lot of forward lean.
It's funny though the number of gyms I've been in and trainers I've seen telling people to keep their back more upright, don't lean forward and so on. They should know better, but they don't.
I'm hoping all the personal trainers in the world watch this very instructive video. Many of you probably already know this, but I wanted to share anyway and I didn't want to tack it onto justregularguy's post about rotators in which I brought up limb length, but as it relates to arms, not legs.
Enjoy

My long femurs keep my squat poundage down, but I have one hell of a leg extension. I've seen people squat 5 45's on a side that do sets of 5 with x on leg extension and I can take the same weight on leg extension and do 25 reps. Kind of funny how when you find the movement that fits your build you can lift a lot of weight. I don't do leg extensions with any regularity at all. I think they are generally a worthless movement. I'm better of squatting or leg pressing. Poor mechanics don't keep you from gaining strength, they keep you from exhibiting strength.

Down, Potatohead! Quit biting the newbie's ankles!
I think the fellow who made that video makes a lot of sense. At my gym, I've gotten lots of conflicting advice about squats. My tibia is much longer than my fibula, and my torso is relatively short for my arm and leg lengths. I used to be 6 feet 1 inch as a young man and now I'm 5 feet 9-1/2 inches. It was my spine that shrank.
So now I occasionally ask my mates to film me doing squats and deadlifts and look for what is good form for my individual body. In other words: Be your own trainer but be intelligent about it.
