It goes beyond saying that when you screw a hook into a wall or ceiling to use for exercising, that hook must be secure. It must be centered on a stud or joist. You can't take a chance on placing it too close to the edge of the wood. Here's a technique I use for finding the center of a stud or joist. After I've located one or the other, I tap brads back and forth across it until I have located the edges of the wood. This way I know exactly where center is. And, needless to say, you first have to drill a guide hole for the hook to ensure that it will go in straight and that the wood won't split.
