Well it isn't the Navy Seals, because he would need a weight vest for that.

Billfish, I'm not Bruce but his advice is ridiculous. He was never in any armed force let alone the Marines. Why the heck does he even mention Peary Rader. He has no idea what he's talking about. The recruiters are there to show them how to get ready for boot camp. The kid is 18 years old, just eat food and listen to the recruiter. My son's recruiter told me don't worry he's going to be ready for boot camp. When he gets back from boot camp he's going to lose a decent amount of weight anyway. At least my son did as I'm sure Bruce and Yourself did.

Agree Michael....the first thing i thought of was that the recruiter would advise him Anyone going to Johnny Tighty Whities for advice is a fool I wasn't in the Marines, but went into the USAF as a skinny 18 yr old and gained 20 lbs by the time I got out

Definitely Billfish. If the kid is not overweight, I wouldn't worry about that. , milk and spaghetti.

My friend went into the Marines in 1968 about the same time as I went into the AF We ran into each other while home on leave and he gained 10 lbs in Boot Camp.....he said the DI told him he was "too skinny" and when he was on the chow line the DI told the servers "more potatoes, more pasta" etc

If the kid is underweight he will get double rations when he goes through the chow line. As far as helping, of course it will help and it will make it easier, at least physically. Trust me you will be doing loads of iso's like wall sits, leg raise holds, holding your rifle out in front you. I
The one thing I wish I had focused much more on before going to Parris Island and that was rucking. Less running, more rucking, and doing my bodyweight exercises with weight, especially 8 count bodybuilders. on the BW exercises I wouldn't add so much weigh that it beats the reps into the ground, just enough and not much more.
Paper hold Iso's

I'm surprised that the Corps didn't reach to Johnny tighty whities to get his input on what kind of PT the recruits need at MCRD.......oh well, their loss !

I have never been in the marines but in my younger days I was in the British Armed Forces, infantryman.
I can tell that during basic training we did all kinds of bodyweight exercises such as sit ups, leg raises, pullups, chin ups, dips push ups, etc. Also lots and lots of running with and without our full kit. Now after basic training, all the privates, corporals and sergeants used a multi gym, yes weights, shock horror, thus was their main training, of course they still did basics when they had to and continued their running but the vast majority of their training was weights, now I know I saw them use a multi gym but we kept a basic weight set in our room and some of us visited various gyms around the town's where we were based.

There must be dozens of websites telling you how to prepare for any branch of the service you could think of...put up by men who have actually done these things. Nobody in their right mind would ask the Minnesota Midget for advice on military service.

Isometrics are good at least as a fitness supplement
