This is an excellent thread. I have found that as long as one is breathing things are good. When it stops, then you really have no more fitness, strength, monetary or emotional worries either. Sort of even more relaxing to not breathe as opposed to focus on one's breath.

You may find that a relaxing breath focused meditation lowers your blood pressure and heart rate especially after visiting that other forum .

The Art Of Breathing Without Thinking. It is the most natural form of the human body it's not even funny. It's like second nature but with a few bonuses for certain methods. Breathing is breathing period. However, if it isn't congruent with what we do in terms of exercise, it doesn't help us reach our full potential. The more you can naturally breathe, the more things fall into place. The costal breathing method isn't very good for naturally taking in quality air. You're basically thinking too much with the breath and shifting it into the chest in order to trim the waist, if that's what people like than good for them.
It's physically impossible to breathe that way if you just did sprints. I could be wrong but if one were to try to breathe that way after heavy rigerous training, they could develop a hernia or worse something can really be damaged to the organs.
Quality breathing is the best form of breathing and the more natural it's going into, the better off you'll be. Just saying.

The way I see it, we breathe naturally, as nature intended us to breathe. We don't spend our days focusing on our breathing, it is a natural function. If we're breathing too shallowly, we sigh, taking in a deep breath. We breath steadily and easily while walking. We breathe deeply while working out. When I workout, I works out hard. When I sit, I sits loose. When I thinks, I falls asleep. I think it is this simple Bruce. I know there are different breathing techniques for martial arts and health benefits, that's all well and good. That coastal breathing is just Blue Speedos trying to set himself apart, which he's not. It's just not natural. What person really just naturally breaths only expanding their chest. What Fred and Yourself said makes the most sense to me. I didn't watch the video because I'm not a big fan of Steve but agree with what Mikey wrote. I personally don't have all day to exercise or to practice breathing all day.

Quality breathing is the best form of breathing and the more natural it's going into, the better off you'll be. Just saying. What ? Maybe I was talking in Stangaliese or sounding off like Yogi Berra. For those playing the home game, breathing is so natural for us we don't have to think about it. It's automatic and when we are born, belly breathing is one of our first instincts, correct me if I'm wrong but don't think I'm far off. Some methods that put more thought or focused intent into breathing such as the chest puffing costal breathing or the 5 second rule breathing (breathe for 5, out for 5) give a different insight into what's already natural. Some techniques are very good that allow us greater recovery and not always put us in that "fight or flight mode." Quality Breathing isn't easy to explain. Imo, QB, is the type of breathing that is more natural and helps lower the body's build up of inflammation, anxiety and raises the levels of positive stress and clarity. There are ways to lower blood pressure using certain techniques but some techniques aren't meant for certain people. Not to go into specifics but overall, breathing is our first natural instinct period. The breath is our power and it can either work with us or against us, either way, it's still breathing.
