To show my range of trivia. The Portuguese name for the rear naked choke is Mata Leon which means lion killer. It does not say how he killed it but I cannot think of any other way without getting torn up by fangs and claws. Maybe a big rock or branch to the head. Or the thirty foot iron pipe that someone in the Forystek family found laying in a forest and used to beat a bear into sumbmission and retreat. According to the intro to their book Flexercise.

That's intereresting, do you think it's a reference to the Nemean lion? Anyway I don't fancy my chances with any similarly sizes predator but apparently the skulls on big cats are relatively weak to keep their weight down.

If your are running, you can be seen as a prey animal, especially an inexperienced younger predator. It is to be noted however that any predator can turn to preying on humans, if he is unable to hunt his usual preys or in some rare cases just hungry as has been the case in some predatory bear and lions attacks, or again raised by maneating parents.

That cracked me up Mr A. Thank you. I was thinking of him. But maybe Tiger moves are overkill on a cougar/mountain lion/Catamount/panther

This is the most important I think. Public service announcement. There were three people killed that I was aware of in the entire state the 8 years I was there. Several others mauled.
ARE MOUNTAIN LIONS DANGEROUS?
Warning Sign for entering cougar country on a grassy trail. To deer, yes! To people, not so much. Human encounters with mountain lions are rare and the risk of an attack is infinitely small. You are more likely to drown in your bathtub, be killed by a pet dog, or hit by lightning. If lions had any natural urge to hunt people, there would be attacks every single day. Instead, they avoid us.
But if you live, work, or play in cat country, be alert! Avoid walking alone between dusk and dawn when lions are most active. Keep your children and pets close to you. Never approach or corner a mountain lion (or any wild animal). If you do encounter a mountain lion, STOP. DO NOT RUN. Unlike safety advice for encountering bears, do not act timid or play dead in front of a cat.
Instead: Maintain eye contact. Stand tall. Look bigger by opening your coat or raising your arms. Slowly wave your arms and speak firmly. Throw items at the lion if necessary. Give the cat room and time to move on.
In the rare event of an attack, fight back. Most people succeed in driving the mountain lion away.
HOW CAN I PROTECT MY PETS AND LIVESTOCK FROM MOUNTAIN LIONS?
If you live in or around mountain lion habitat, it is wise to bring your animals indoors at night. Although still a fairly rare occurrence, domestic animals can be an easy meal for mountain lions and other wild predators. Mountain lions hunt primarily at night and unprotected pets, sheep and goats are easy prey. Most pets and livestock do not have the skills to protect themselves and are dependent on people for their safety. The threat to domestic animals from mountain lions can easily be avoided by modifying animal husbandry practices. See MLF's 4 Simple Steps for more details.

Don't be disappointed it is MLF not MILF MILF, MILF, MILF .... Up here in Coeur D'Alene this past summer we did have a cougar sighting and ended up getting shot down while it was sitting in a tree in an area of town. There were fires and animals had to flee for shelter. We have a lot of deer in our area so it was a bit weird for a while.

Agreed, cougars are not usually a threat to adult humans, but they can be under the wrong conditions or not so wrong, smaller individuals sometimes be more at risk. When we were living a few miles north of Hudson Hope BC, I remember our nearest neighbour shot one that was stalking her 7 years old daughter.
A cougar predatory attack will no come from where the prey will see it coming, they are ambush hunters and stealth stalkers.

Interesting that he suffocated it using his weight....seems like an intelligent solution, kudos to him for more-or-less instinctively doing it.

That is why I wanted to share. Note how the cat was going for his neck. They seem to instinctually know that is where you are vulnerable and should be attacked
