"There’s a lot under the hood in this discussion and plenty of confounding variables to all this, but the take home is pretty straight forward: exercise is not a major factor to weight loss that many assumed in decades past, the human body proves itself to be far more adaptable to maintaining homeostasis than we realized, and when it comes to weight loss, “you can’t out exercise a bad diet” to paraphrase who ever said that originally. If weight loss is the goal, the major focus should be on creating the caloric deficit by nutrition, with exercise perhaps adding and additional 10% to that deficit, and good things will happen"
I remember during my rugby years, I could eat Burger King meals all week long and still lose weight thanks to lots of sprints, weight work, rucks and mauls, so at the time there was something to the whole "outrunning donuts". But that was some 40 years ago -- my metabolism, recovery, and general friskiness was at a different level. Like it or not, I now have to "eat right".

It has always been the same eat less weigh less, it does not matter what you eat. If someone eats 500 less calories a day, they will lose an average of 1 to 2 pounds a week, it is that simple.

It's important through means of keeping the body healthy for as long as you can. Jack Lalanne, George Hackenshmidt, John Grimek, Frank Zane and a few others were the cream of the crop to what exercise can do for you as you get older.
