Yesterday I took our kitty up Main Street to the vet's for shots. As I was heading to the glass door to leave, we saw a cop go by with his gun drawn. We decided I ought to wait inside for a bit. After a few minutes, I opened the door and peered outside. The coast seemed clear in front of the vet's, so I stepped out to my car which was parked directly in front and drove away. As I turned the corner there were two cop cars parked on that street. I went around the block back to Main Street, and in front of the house next to the vet's were two ambulances and a few cop cars, lights flashing, and the road blocked.
I live down the street on Main Street, and the lights and blockade continued on into the night. After 10:00 I got a call from the KBI - Kansas Bureau of Investigation, wanting to know what I saw, what I heard.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has identified 38-year-old Rene Prieto of Pratt as an armed gunman involved in an officer-involved shooting in Pratt Tuesday.
PRATT COUNTY — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred Tuesday evening outside a residence in Pratt.
On Nov. 13, shortly before 4 p.m., the Pratt Police Department requested KBI assistance to investigate a shooting. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Pratt Police Department received a call reporting a man on the street who was waving a gun. When responding officers arrived at 512 N. Main St. in Pratt, they encountered an armed man outside, north of the residence. The man was later identified as Rene Prieto, 38, of Pratt, according to a KBI press release.
As officers approached Prieto, attempting to make contact with him, he fired at one of the officers. Three officers returned fire. Prieto was injured by gunfire. Officers secured Prieto and the scene, and called EMS.
Prieto was transported to a Wichita hospital and is currently in critical condition. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
Several law enforcement agencies including the KBI, Kansas Highway Patrol, Pratt Police Department, Pratt County Sheriff’s Office, Reno County Sheriff, Kiowa County Sheriff, Stafford County Sheriff and Pawnee County as well as Pratt County EMS responded to the scene.
Traffic on North Main is being rerouted around the scene until further notice.
