I was not a grunt, but I always believed it was better for the Deputys that I trained to put as close an equivalent to their full gear as possible and train basic skills. I never remember anyone doing a foot pursuit longer than a minute or so, but I certainly remember being posted on a perimeters for hours on end. Of course, if you LIKE to run, go for it.

Absolutely! You're spot on. There are countless ways to train and improve endurance without necessarily hitting the pavement for a run. Mallakhamb training is a perfect example. It's a dynamic and engaging workout that not only builds endurance but also enhances strength, flexibility, and balance. With Mallakhamb, you're not just running; you're climbing, twisting, and defying gravity, all of which contribute to improving your overall endurance in a unique and exciting way. So lace up those Mallakhamb grips and get ready to elevate your fitness routine without ever needing to lace up your running shoes!

I agree that you don't have to run to train for endurance; there are many alternatives.
But being able to run fast is a great form of self defense. I'm visiting where I used to live and was talking to an old karate buddy who shared with me how he recently had to run and realized he has forgotten how. He also shared he learned he has forgotten how to jump. He's fit in other modalities so I found his shared revelations interesting.
I say cut to the chase and do 100 burpees with jumps workouts; problem solved, and functional endurance achieved.
