Have You ever fell off the fitness wagon? I know most of us have. This could be nutrition wise also. What did You do to get back on? What would be Your advice to someone who has fell off?

I fell off it for 8 years due to the bodybuilding programs in the magazines I didn’t want to do. I had a lot of questions but didn’t really follow up on them. Then in the late 90s I was one of the original buyers of Anthony Bova’s Spartan health regime which was motivating and John O’Neill’s book which described using fifteen times less of your maximum weight to train with until you achieve 1000 reps, but I didn’t really start training again until I read Anna Bonus Kingsford The Perfect way in diet. I enjoyed her descriptions of the simple diet, health and work practices of various people at the end of the 1800s. So I bought a strongman yoke. Then I had recalled the issues I had as a kid not being able to run very far, I had crap endurance so started training for running endurance. Over the last year I joined this site again to clarify my training ideas and found Art Devanys Evolutionary fitness asked and answered the questions I had 30 years ago, and it was easy to do and suited me. So I do a program on those themes, and John O’ Neill.

Of course, several times in my adult life and hopefully no more but we shall see.
What has always worked for me is getting mad and disgusted with myself. Looking in the mirror and calling myself a fat f_ _ k, imaging that I’m kicking myself in my a$$ and reporting to Pierini Fitness Boot Camp under the control and supervision of Drill Sergeant Pierini Fitness.
Also having measurable goals and dates, detailed workout journals and more recently the MyFitnessPal app that I use each and every day.
I added about 10 lbs. of body weight during the first year of retirement getting up to 180 lbs. and am now a man on a mission to get back to 170 lbs. by my 67th birthday. While I may look better clothed at 180 lbs., my knees and everything else feel better at 170 lbs.
When I was 170 lbs. and lower, Mrs. Pierini Fitness said that while my body appearance and agility looked like a much younger man, I had the face of a 70-year old; bordering on a tweaker look. I’ll take that look and so will my knees.
I never fell off the wagon but experienced erosion of upper percentile cardiovascular conditioning, strength and leanness relative to where I was at age 65.

Agreeing to 2 minutes of exercise works for me. Even if I really really don't want to exercise, I agree with doing the first two minutes even if it takes me two minutes to get my kettlebell/bands/dumbbells out, once you get started you atleast tend to get 10-15 minutes in even if you still don't want to exercise I saw it in a video on youtube, I'll look for it. EDIT:

We have probably all have fallen off at one time or another....and that may be perfectly natural as it may be the body's way of saying it needs a change or we are pushing it too hard Perhaps we need to look at what we're doing and be honest with ourselves about it Change is good....and pushing too hard is only asking for trouble Exercise to live....don't live to exercise We're not at the Olympics and we need to be realistic about our age, condition and goals If we want to continue to exercise for life, we need to be honest with ourselves and not try to act like we're 20 years old No one is watching....no one cares what we can do.....we're not here to impress anyone....relax and enjoy the exercise It's good for you

Denis I have no idea what any of those systems are but I'm glad they are working for You. That's a good idea Lardy! From reading some of Your posts it seems like You're making some lead way on Your fitness? Bungfill, , sorry Billfish, Carol cracks me up. I never worry about what someone thinks about what I do with my exercise. I have nothing to prove to anyone on here. Someone is always going to criticize what someone is doing or feel they are more macho. I always like to honestly see how someone exercises to see if I can learn anything and feel happy for what they are doing for themselves. That's why I try to never make fun of or make smart remarks about how someone exercises. Yes some take it to far. Something that I always try to remind myself of is," Dedication means You control the thing You do. Obsession means the thing You do controls You. Coax the body and it responds, force the body and it reacts." Don't remember where I got that from but wrote it down years ago. My exercise in the morning is fun, feels good, and helps relax me. I have fell off a time or two myself. I would say that would mostly be diet wise. Recently I may have got into some trouble on the job for protecting myself. Kind of felt bad about it and fell of diet wise.

KSHD ( self resistance) use has kept me in the game when health issues prevented my usual "manly" workouts

I never thought I'd be where I'm at today from where I started from after my accident 7 years ago. I thought I was kaput for sure rolled up like pastry & being told incidentally that the jaws of life operator was on his way in heavy Cairo traffic. (I'm glad he rode in on his vespa!)
I felt like Humpty Dumpty being put back together again. Everything was cracked except my neck. I had several embolisms & a nasty bone infection to the point they seriously discussed amputation. I thought I was permanently disabled & screwed at any semblance of carrying on a normal life again. My wife & the medical consultant she found both weaned success out of a disaster & I was their recipient beneficiary.
There were many times I was ready to throw up my hands but better people then I mentored me along the way to success. I learned that there are endless possibilities limited only by ones imagination & consummate knowledge. U only have to seek the answer & then sort it out. The presiding consultant clearly demonstrated those aspects & I've never forgotten them. These days, I see solutions or ways to ameliorate a problem. Aut inveniam viam aut faciam.
Mark Twain once said that the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. I found mine albeit late in life. Failure or intransigence are not viable options. They are only more roadblocks. I think success at anything including the metaphysical as well as the physical is a proper attitude. However, if attitude was all it took then we'd all be famous. Right? So, once you've cultivated the correct attitude(s), the rest are just moves.
I'm always finding ways to train around injuries or maintain physical homeostasis by way of ergogenics. The training or diet protocol isn't nearly as important as the consistency, flexibility & tenacity of application. They are absolute essentials. Nothing erstwhile can be accomplished without them (just ask michael or pierinifitness).

I can't say I've fallen off doing some sort of exercise for the day. But I changed my protocols when I pulled a hernia mid 80's and swapped over from weight training to chi kung drills. Since then it's been a mixture of isometrics and chi kung in various combinations (not at the same time of the day) and now and then I've pulled the isometrics for a while to try and get the BP down. There were a few years around 2009-2013 I think where I got back into cables and pushups (Zoorkhaneh style) but generally I've always done something in the way of tension KSHD, chi kung, and/or overcoming isometrics.
Right now I'm trying to get my iron (blood content) up to normal and as always the chi kung and isometrics are a lotta fun. No particular goals, except to do some for the day.

What would be Your advice to someone who has fell off? Get back on, m8. What a marvelous idea, Bruv Michael, as I understand it, your everyday work revolves around trees and timber, so it's gotta be pretty tough at the best of times. Would it really be such a bad thing to "fall off" your training regimen now and then, just to give yourself a break and freshen up a bit ?
