Got some parts and put together these short-range exercise setups: One-hand deadlift According to the specs the springs have a starting tension of about 65kg and at full extension, which is just 15mm, they'd be a bit over 100kg. I'm least happy with the handles, these are knockoff fatgripz and have a lot more give in them than the springs do. For one-hand deadlift, I can also use the Hook handles, but I might try and find something else for the horseshoe trainer. I'm a sucker for any DIY exercise equipment involving chains. Do you put a foot into the stirrup on the floor or am I misunderstanding the pic?

Yeah it's not a very clear picture but that's a stirrup, before now my homemade workout gear was all chains, shackles, and spiked rubber dog toys so it's been exciting trying something new.

It looks like something from Bruce's favorite Gerbils In Bondage.

Got a bit fed up with using kitchen counters and other furniture for doing dips and decided to make a dip station at the weekend. It's based on the design of the high pushup bar in Grunt and Shen's workshop but with different dimensions. www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenandoah/Grunt/Bodyweight.htmlLiterally a few minutes to assemble. I spent more time taking the bar code stickers off. Mrs BigBruvOfEnglandUK gave me a tip though. Leave the pipes in hot water for a few minutes so the stickers come off without having to scrape them with a blade. Something plastic will do it. You might need to use a solvent to remove the glue though. You don't need any tools to assemble it as it all just screws together by hand and using the pipes as leverage against each other as you wind them in. I used gardening gloves to give the two end caps (the feet) a final tighten but it's not necessary. I used 15mm galvanised pipe (That's the bore diameter). The outside diameter is around 20mm. It's very stable. I slipped some vinyl tubing over the handles before final assembly. The vinyl tubing has made the handles about 32 mm thick and very comfortable and should last for years. It's not worked out much cheaper than the cheapest dip stations on ebay and Amazon but the advantage for me is that it's exactly the size that I wanted. Also I'm not sure that the cheap ones are very sturdy but I've never tried one. A tip I found on Youtube for making it the correct width for you is to measure from your middle finger tip to elbow and add the width of two to four fingers. Those two measurements together is the approximate space needed between the handles. My tips for working around a dodgy shoulder. Make the station low enough so that your feet or your knees (depending on how you do dips) touch the floor in your bottom position so you don't accidentally overstretch your pecs or shoulders at the bottom position. I always bend my knees and lower myself until my knees touch the floor and then return to the top. To warm up I either place a cushion on the floor and lower down to that for some partial reps or I use a 48" resistance band loop for assisted dips. The band wraps around my wrists and then I just kneel in it. I do dips leaning forward as recommended by Jeff Cavaliere of Athlean-X (See video below) and with bent knees to make this a chest dip as the more upright triceps dips tend to irritate my shoulders.

Nice. Is there room to do pull ups too if you tuck up your legs? I did my pulls ups that way for years with a dip stand and it was great for keeping equipment to a minimum.

Notice the way Bruv has strategically placed this equipment in the corner. It will make an excellent conversation piece when peeps come round to visit him and the Mrs.
Andy62 taught you well.

I hadn't listened to any of Jeff Cavalier's videos for a while. This one doesn't say anything most of us don't already know or have discussed here on the forum, but it has some decent advice:

There is but they would not be full range. If I made it taller there would be and I could easily change the legs for longer lengths. There are several lengths all the way up to 1800 mm available but I just wanted it for dips as I'm only doing two exercises these days. Dips and kettlebell swings ala Pavel T's "Quick and the Dead", m8. agingmachomen.foroactivo.com/t3019-speaking-of-kb-s

I always bend my knees and lower myself until my knees touch the floor and then return to the top. 👍 Not long ago I read how you need to be careful not to shrug your shoulders when dipping as that may aggravate your shoulders. I think that’s what I would do as my shoulders would ache after a couple of weeks of dipping. However when I’d dip using the Hook and strap I never had any problems. Is that kettlebell homemade as well?

That's a good setup and exercise mix. I have Pavel's minimalist stuff but tend to get bored.
