....... In fact, geese flying overhead freak me out, m8! Here's a little trivia question for y'all...Does anyone know why when Geese are flying in a V formation, one line of Geese is always longer than the other?

I'd guess it's because they are too smart to fly any other way?

They learned from the Luftwaffe finger-four fighter formations in WW2, and have long memories ?

I just happened to remember a phenomena my wife and I had witnessed some time last year. I have, now and then, seen a hawk soaring above, usually one, every once in awhile, two, and they've never been very high up. My wife and I were in our back yard when we looked up and saw dozens of tiny birds circling around above us. When we looked closer, we saw that they were hawks. They were so high up, they appeared tiny. There looked to be at least 50 of them, all flying around and around. And, yes, they were easily identifiable has being hawks. Has anyone here ever seen this? Do we have any bird brains on this forum who can explain this behavior? They might have spotted you outdoors in your backyard wearing your wife beater t-shirt and confused you for an oversized road kill. Hawks are always hungry so be careful. Those colossal guns would make a good meal !

Bruce, I always see hawks but never like You described. During the week I encounter all kinds of wildlife. In the County, I work in, not sure if they are considered mountains, but I see a lot of foxes.
