I would use black pipe instead of PVC for something like that. On this one, the handle is longer and the weight appears lighter than the gadas/maces I've made. What do you suppose the ball weighs? I'd guess small shot put size, like 8#?
If I tried that, I'd probably start out with just an unweighted broomstick until I felt what it does to my shoulders, etc. Then, after getting a feel for it, increase the weight to something I like.

I think 8 lbs is a good guess but I'm not sure.

Thought some guys would like this. I'd hate to be his neighbor. If a weight breaks free, that thing is a flyin'!

A high school buddy of mine had a roommate in college who was 6'7 and 320 lbs. Both played football. This big guy also did the hammer throw for the track and field team. While this big guy was behind the fence waiting his turn at the hammer throw, the guy doing it had the cable break and it hit the rusty fence and broke through and busted the big guys jaw. It was said if he wasn't so tall and big it would have hit an average guy in the temple and killed him.

Watched without the sound on, but highland hammer rotations, which I guess are like that but with the arms straighter, were a rare and unusual thing for the intercostals. I think it's something boxers should try to build some padding around their ribs.
The weight always came off my homemade hammer eventually, I think it was 18 lbs. I learnt to wrap it all in tape so that when it came off I could find most of the weights still stuck together.
