Well I just did dips and I found it hard going, the garlic and onion was fine and then I moved on to cheese and chive, but I found the thousand island a dip too far.

While those exercises are very good if done properly: - one legged squat is not good for the lower spine and is as much balance as leg power, not the best election - dips are hard on the shoulders - for the lower back and general power, a heavy pull is necessary: deadlift, rack pull, whatever - what about oh presses? - the genetic freaks are roid freaks who loose 50-80 pounds when out of "magic"
Jones was a smart entrepeneur but not a genius, even if he was, his word is not gospel.

Great thread, I love stuff like this. I found a safe way to do one legged squats a few years back, see the thread about reclusive training - I forget the name. I use this exercise all thectime and rate it as one of the best leg exercises. I wish I could do dips. Used to maybe 25 years ago, with plenty of weight hanging from my waist with good range of motion. I suffer with costochronditris and get a lot of rib pain nowadays. Other exercises make it flare up, but dips destroy me, I also get that horrible crunch in my sternum and pain for weeks if I dip. Ha, so a no go for me.

I would add one humble comment. You don't need to be able to do one arm chins for this to be effective. From what I've seen, the guys who can rep out one arm chins don't often have great bicep development. Crazy strong of course, but not usually over muscular.

Chins and dips could definitely build a great uooer body, but to expand on what someone else said, I think adding maybe one leg squats, clean and press, deadlifts and rows would be a great all round. Of course, you are then kind of missing the point of such an abbreviated program.

Pick heavy (for you) things (not yourself) up off the ground. Lift heavy things up above your head. Carry heavy things around. Those are the things human beings do that gets shit done. The development will follow.

It doesn't really matter what Arthur Jones had to say about anything pertaining to exercise (let him Rest In Peace), because that guy most certainly put the capital B in BULLSHIT when it comes to this stuff
...and with the notable exception of the most excellent Nautilus Pullover machine, his entire line of other 'Nautilus' equipment simply didn't work as claimed !!!. So sorry, but anyone 'believing' in the MARKETING hoopla & hype fairy tale stories is simply being naive, bless their hearts

I have only a few exercise related books - I mean count on one hand. I've learned a lot from other people though, as well as from my own experiments.

Decades before anyone heard of Arthur Jones, Bob Hoffman was promoting his "Big Five": push, pull, bend (squat), raise on toes and shoulder shrug. I followed a routine like that when I was in school, and I got pretty beastly--looked like a fireplug though, not a bodybuilder.
