A close friend's dad served in WWII and the Korean War. He's in his 90s and I called and thanked him. He said he's received several calls/emails and was overwhelmed and grateful.
He lost two brothers in the Battle of the Bulge.

Below is a link to me singing a song in commemoration of the Battle of Gallipoli. This was a famous battle between ANZAC fources (Australia and New Zealand) against the Turks in World War I. I believe I posted this on the Tapacrap board a few years ago. It's in honor of all who have found themselves in the mercilous meat grinder of modern warfare.

That is great Alan. Always thought you looked a little like Pete Seger.

Fantastic job, Alan!
For those not familiar with the story, the battle for the Gallipoli peninsula is a pretty sad story regarding the tragic loss of life that could have been avoided if the senior commanders had listened to their local battle groups and even regional strategists such as T.E. Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia) who warned against the pending disaster of the invasion.
The remaining vestiges of the Ottoman Empire were trying to maintain power with the assistance of Germany and had identified "enemies" such as the Jews and Armenians, leading up to WWI and through the war who fled the region in mass while being attacked, starved, deprived of water.
Mel Gibson starred in a film about the battle and if you can find it, highly recommended.
On a related note, there was a less well done movie but still historically accurate movie with Christian Bale (Batman) called the Promise about the Ottoman Empire running a genocidal campaign against the Armenians and the work done to help them escape.
