Bruce -- are these ok on the knees? I thought of one for my dad as an Xmas present but his knees will sometimes give him a bit of discomfort. He does step ups fine, but walking can irritate them. Does this bother your knees? The first thing I noticed was that it is very easy on your knees. In this thread, Bruv, and I think mikey, have attested to it actually helping bad knees.

There is a very minor skill curve to master when using these steppers. Once you find the amount of travel that suits you, it should not bother the knees. The tension is adjustable but travel is simply determined by how far you step down and when you begin to shift weight to the other leg. An important thing is to try to never hit the stops as that is jarring to the knees, hips, and spine. Many of the big fitness equipment companies market an identical design stepper as the one with the Gold's Gym logo so if you find one with another name on it but at a better price buy it as it was probably made in the same factory in China. Oh, and for folks that are recovering from something it works fine sitting OR standing depending on which way you point it.

Bruce, got the stepper. Manual notes that it gets "hot" after use. I was going to use it in the bedroom but if there's any danger to early rising grandkids or the dogs that's out. I can take it out to the (unheated) garage - put on a coat, whatever - so how hot and for how long does it stay hot? I can live with the garage, even in cold New England weather - move the snowblower, gasoline can, lawnmower around if need be. I don't imagine any problems with leaving it out in the cold all winter. Thanks.

Congratulations! I don't know what it means by getting hot. Mine was given to us by our son without instructions. But you don't have to worry about over use. It's like jogging in place and burns your thighs. I'm up to 7 minutes on mine.
