In my recent experimentation with farmer's walks with 5 gallon buckets, I have moved into swinging the buckets. Fill the buckets about 3/4 way or so, then get them swinging, forward up to where the arms are almost parallel to the ground, probably not quite that high, and then back as far as you can, spreading them wide on the back swing and kind of toward the center on the front swing. Keep your elbows bent a little, don't lock them them out. If you bang them together you're getting splashed. After about 20 reps you should be feeling this pretty good in the traps. This is a great move for the following reasons:
Stretched and weighted isometric on the arms throughout hits all the "upper upper" body, arms, shoulders, chest, traps. Is actually a very decent cardio workout involving the upper body almost exclusively.
Don't mock it 'til you rock it. I tried it with kbs and dbs, not the same feel. If you think it looks stupid go flip a tire around your backyard and tell me you don't look like a lunatic.

If You like unconventional and new ideas Nick Nilsson shows a lot of stuff on Facebook. He shows that swinging carry somewhere but I can't find it. Fred showed me him years ago. www.facebook.com/nicknilssonwww.madscientistofmuscle.com/Fred if You read this, I think it's the fifth post down on Facebook he shows a rig with a band for reverse hyper machine type of exercise.

You could also cut swimming pool noodles for handles to work your grip more.

Looks like my Mrs with the shopping bags after I've refused to spend ridiculous money on a coat.
