Russell Brand — 'What you may not know is that this happens in the context of the online safety bill which is a piece of UK legislation that grants sweeping surveillance and censorship powers and it's a law that's already been passed." The online safety bill is stated to be about protecting children online from groomers and to also tackle terrorism. The laws on protecting children online and tackling terrorism were already in place and have been for quite some time. More manpower and resources will protect more children and also reduce terrorist's activity online but this new bill doesn't do that. It will do no more for children and anti-terrorism than the current law. It's just a vague new bill that will be used to quieten criticism of the government.
