I do use a lot of Cockney rhyming slang. Some Australians also use it so they often understand me and also have some of their own rhyming slang as well, m8. Well now that I know what you sorta sound like, this is kinda how me and Billfish sound... He left out that New Yorkers normally also drop "ve" in many words. Saying "fye dolla bill" is a dead giveaway that someone is a New Yorker. I've spent 3/4 of my 61 years (by choice) in SC now and people here still know immediately that I'm not from SC after I say a sentence or two.

I was once driving down to Miami for a friends wedding and stopped off in Port St. Lucie for gas and coffee. It was about 3 am and the little cutie pie behind the register said "good morning"...when I gave her a 'good mornin' right back she said "oh you're from New York, I've never been there". I kidded around for a bit and told her I'd pick her up on the way back and take her with me to NYC... ended up getting the coffee and a few snacks for free

True.....I spoke to a guy who had left NYC as a teenager to join the Navy and never returned He spoke a few sentences and sure enough, the NYC came out, just slightly, but enough for me to catch it instantly I asked "NYC ?" and he laughed and said "you never lose the accent"....while reminding me that mine was unmistakable

I remember you once mentioned relatives here in the states, have you ever shipped up to Boston, m8 ? We lived in the USA for a little while when I was a dustbin lid (kid) but went back to EnglandUK when I was 6. One of my brothers was born in Charleston, SC when I was 4 so we were in the USA at least a couple of years. I remember being in Charleston and just outside of Boston. I don't remember any other places. I also went to Boston in 1981 or thereabouts to visit relatives, Magz m8.

The Navy sent me to Charleston in late 1980 and I stayed there for the next 25 years.

Here's how Billfish would sound. I know this very well My old house was in this battalion and I have worked in the firehouse shown many times, and have driven the engine there as well I know Marvin (driving) and the Lieutenant and I were probies together in a different firehouse The biggest danger while responding in that neighborhood is the Hasidics....those people just zone out and block traffic Had an ass kicking fire right across the street from the firehouse one night there, I was the last guy of four making a push down into the burning cellar and the only guy left on the line after the first three guys all got burned while putting the fire out... the nozzleman got burned and had to back out, then the guy who moved up on the line to the nozzle got burned and had to exit and the same for the next guy and then I was the only one left and unburned, but at this point all that was left was to overhaul and washdown Just a normal day in the busy FDNY houses back then

Here's how Billfish would sound. We pulled out of the firehouse responding to a fire one time and there was a car at the intersection blocking us and despite the horn and sirens , the car just sat there until the fireman driving got out and yelled at this lady to move ....she started wailing "I'm from Maine, I'm from Maine ! " and he yelled back at her : "I don't give a fuck if you're from Mars, move the fuckin' car ! " It was a fire too Here's another one from the same day as the first video:

Here's how Billfish would sound. I'm pretty sure that Billfish would make a polite request to the driver, m8.
