I know most hate burpees. I know most here criticize Pierini for doing them. I think people should do what they have fun doing as long as it doesn't hurt them. Some have more wear and tear which would make some things hurt. I think there's a way to do some exercises to make them work for the person. Gary Bowes had once wrote some ways to make burpees easier and more about practicing a skill. Deuce once posted a very good video of a guy showing different ways to get off the floor. That's one of the reasons I always like KB Getups because I think getting off the floor is an important skill. Burpees are considered bad and ok by some. I don't look for studies, I just go by the way something feels to me.
I know there are reasons people hate burpees, I get it. I don't do them very often if at all now. But I have done them in the past. When I did them most of the time I would skip the pushups, maybe even the jump, and used them as an add on to get the heart rate up. Now I have more enjoyable ways for myself to get some cardio without running. I'm not making this post to rip Pierini or burpees. I get why he does them, cardio, and I don't hate the cardiovascular benefit of certain exercises. But as I've mentioned in the past, I've always got bored with doing just one exercise and a minimalist approach.

The ground is always going to be there and life becomes extremely more complicated when you cannot get up from it. Being able to do it is an essential skill but it does not necessarily have to be an athletic event.

Yeah that makes sense Deuce. But I don't hate people that decide to go that route. I prefer what You said personally for that skill. Most of my other exercise is based more on endurance and a strength mixture.

I've eliminated exercises that I don't like, cause discomfort or -- of late --I'd suggest aren't 'ancestral'. I don't believe Grok (to borrow from Mark Sisson) nor his primal peers would spend any part of their day doing burpees over & over. Frank Forencich, an ancestral biologist (?), said the same about push ups, much to the dismay of push up advocates.
TGUs? They make more a bit more sense -- if you're forced to get up and off the floor with a weighted load or you're struggling with an opponent, then there might be some carryover.
And as BillFish noted, Burpees were a punishment in the military. But, if you enjoy them? Have at 'em. I'd rather spend my energy on something else I enjoy and/or makes more sense to me.

Some author wrote if you want to see what kind of shape you’re in, lay on the floor and stand up, repeat 9 more times.

Being able to do it is an essential skill but it does not necessarily have to be an athletic event. Anything can be made into an athletic event by simply donning some black active wear and Nike footwear, DG m8. It always makes me chuckle to myself when I see people in their active wear out for a stroll on the path by the beach on weekends as if they had to get dressed in special clothing to go for a walk.

I know most hate burpees. I know most here criticize Pierini for doing them. Exchange "burpees" for "biceps". This is starting off exactly like one of your biceps threads. How do you know what most here think of burpees or biceps training? I've never seen loads of people jump into threads about either. It's usually just a handful of guys talking back and forth, m8.

So, the basic OP about "The Skill Of Getting Off The Floor" is this?
Took me a bit to sort it out.

I've watched a very low level pro wrestling training session before when I took my cousin after his car had died, I'm not joking the first exercise he had them all do was get on the floor anyway you like and lie down then get back up anyway you like x 100, safe to say everyone was exhausted afterwards.

I dont hate burpees, juat not a fan of doing them myself, but I am sure we all have exercises we like, and those we tend to avoid. This business of practicing getting off the floor, not even a consideration in our younger years is it... but now, well it is definitely something to think about. I did a few reps the other night just out of curiosity - getting down and back up with no hands. I think I will make a habit of it.

I hated burpees and put my all into them, but still hated them Getting up off the floor is a good move for us older guys A guy who used to post at DD named Nate (?) and was a USAF Pararescue guy wrote about this move which he called "belly-backs" and I liked doing I can't find a video of them but they go something like this:
1) Lay on back, arms extended behind head
2) Spin and roll your body over onto your stomach....you should end up facing in the same direction you started in
3) Stand up.... use hands as little as possible
4) Return to starting position
Repeat
Enjoyed doing TGUs too....have to start doing them again
