I appologise I put 180lbs but it was 176lbs, just changed it. So I lost 6 pounds the first week of Bruce's routine. I cut out the junk but the calories were the same. I haven't benched or squated with a bar since about 2006. So I haven't any idea. I prefer Dips and push ups to benching. I only have two Kettlebells and dumbbells up to 20 lbs. Squatting with weight bothers my MCLs on both knees. I prefer the Stuff the is in the Get Strong book by the Kavalodo's for legs. If you've been working out for years then realistically size gains will be down to a trickle. Al Kavadlo did a Facebook post which said he hasn't gained size for a about ten years. it's just really hard to gain size naturally after that first 4 or 5 years. My lean weight doesn't really vary much not matter how I train. This is where I think routines such as Bruce's come in useful as when I'm lean that sort of pumping stuff really brings out the veins and seems to add a great finishing touch. And yes -- they will add a quick half inch or so if you haven't trained that way previously.

Jack didn't put on a half an inch, he put on an inch, and if he went right into a routine much like the one I now do, he would have either maintained that inch or lost very little of it, and in time would add to that inch. I'm experienced, too. Here are my two authorities:

The consensus be damned , I admire Bruce's "question authority" mindset .

I have been working out for years. I'm just taking all this discussion in from You and Bruce. One thing I have experimented with is progressive calisthenics in the past, the Kavadlo's programs. Doing them alone without anything else I lost size. More solid and stronger but also lost endurance. Their stuff is more for being able to do the next harder variaton which to me there's nothing wrong with that if that's what You want. So I can understand why he hasn't gained any size. It's just like most of Pavel's stuff, more strength than size building. I read in one of the Kavadlo's books or somewhere else that he said higher reps with calisthenics would be the way for more size. But again I could be wrong.
Bruce very good job! Are You shooting for a certain weight?

I'll tell You what I can stop all this conversation right now, . Give me and Gruntbrain what Charles Poliquin is taking, because those arms just don't look natural, and we'll have no more sarcopenia, .

Bruce very good job! Are You shooting for a certain weight? Actually, that picture was from a couple of weeks ago. I'm now 205.8. I seem to have plateaued at 205. But, anyway, no, I don't have a target weight except to get under 200 lbs. After that, I'll just keep on the way I am and I'll eventually get down to whatever I'm going to get down to.

Oh. ok. It's all just water, then. In other words I'm walking around like like a bunch of water filled balloons. Gotcha. And it will all vanish. Just go away. Funny thing, I've always read that it was blood that seeps into your muscles, rebuilding them and making them stronger. Now I find it's all just an illusion. And, AGAIN, that mantra - if you stop working out, you'll lose it all. Well, guess what? That's why I fucking workout! And I don't care if it's water, blood or soy sauce. What I do works and I will continue doing it. Well you do not always need muscle for bigger arms

Real built muscle does not disappear quickly, but the pump does.

I know this is going to get ripped apart here but I thought guys like Bruce, Trog and others would find it interesting. The exercises could also be done KSHD or Self Resistance style.

Soooooo, in truth, you're not getting wider biceps. He's talking about training the brachialis. And...the brachialis per anatomy books is the prime mover when you're bending your upper arm. Curl a barbell, do a farmer's carry...that ole' brachialis is engaged.

I don't do barbell curls or farmer carries. I don't own a barbell and don't have enough weight for farmer carries. I'd rather use good form and tension which keeps my shoulders, biceps and elbows injury free. I either use DBs, cables, self resistance or KSHD for curls. Have to make do with what I have, I think I do pretty good. I like this kind of stuff to switch things up to keep from getting bored. Plus I thought the close grip pull ups and close grip rows were cool ideas. Anyhow, right now I'm not doing any of this because of my 30-30-30 isometrics experiment.
