Just thought I'd give a quick update. Still going to a support group for the diet My food is not bad but not really good either. luckily I seem to be maintaining my weight.
Been doing a bit of walking and an odd time going to just a regular gym. My brother has cleaned his garage a bit and set up a bit of a home gym. Me and my brother have planned to do some workouts this week. At the moment I just want to do any sort of exercise to keep my heart pumping and keep my mobility.
I got a bit disillusioned with the personal training was using a good few machines for weights and didn't really need a personal trainer for that. On the plus side of the personal training when I was doing it a few months ago it got out of the house and exercised regularly. And my fitness and strength did go up. But I plateaued and with the cost of living going up I decided to drop the personal training.
I haven't given up the hope of having a clean diet and a fit and healthy body. Right now for the next month or two I just want to exercise to feel good mentally and physically. In about 3 months' time, I'll have a good bit more free time and would like to devote it to get more fit.

Today I did a 35 minutes workouts today at my brother's garage gym used an old half working elliptical trainer, a 12kg medicine ball did some heavy hands with two 2kg dumbells a bit on an old half-broken total gym bit of boxing on a punching bag some ab wheel rollouts from my knees and a little bit with a sandbag. It felt like a good workout. I worked up a bit of a sweat, just wanted to keep my heart and lungs working and keep my body mobile. I'm afraid of stiffing up and getting unflexible as I get older. Doing a workout really destresses me and helps me get a good sleep at night. My brother trained with me as well we both did our own thing.

.... 1. Doing a workout really destresses me and helps me get a good sleep at night. 2. My brother trained with me as well we both did our own thing. Two key motivators, nice! Gives something to look forward to. Far more important than the equipment used, IMO. Stuff that can be used for exercise is everywhere, but having a reason and a partner are priceless. My brother is gone now, but back in the day, we would go to the Y to have some great, sweaty fun wearing ourselves out playing handball and messing about in the weight room. Good memories. Thanks.

Thanks, Mr P. for you post "Stuff that can be used for exercise is everywhere, but having a reason and a partner are priceless." My brother and I were saying the same thing you just said about if you are really determined you need very little equipment. He bought a new slam ball today but on the whole we have been trying to do our best with what we have. Over a year ago he got most of my old exercise equipment and my sister's half-broken elliptical trainer and put it in his garage. It's funny I have a bit more time and want to exercise more frequently, but he likes lifting heavier and brings in the intensity. He's a normal weight and fairly fit while I have a good bit to go to get to normal. The exercises I've learned here like heavy hands exercises are rubbing off on him now. Sorry to hear about your brother's passing sounds like he was a good guy. I'm glad you had those happy memories with him. Your post has really helped put things in perspective, connection, fun, and laughter with the good people in this world are so important. Today I feel like a lucky person.

Today I did a 35min walk with the dog on an old country road. It was good for me to connect with nature. Straight after the walk, I hit the heavy bag for 11 minutes Then did some medicine ball slams, presses with the medicine ball and sort of jogging on the spot in a circuit for 9 minutes. The walk in nature and the workout combined really helped improve my mood and I worked up a good sweat. It was a 12kg medicine ball and the walk and workout took around 55 minutes.

Got a second workout in today took around 23 minutes. It was a bit of a boring Sunday so I decided to workout to get rid of that feeling, be mindful and get an endorphin high.
Spent 7min on the elliptical machine. Got down on the ground and got a 20kg sandbag and pressed it 50 times in around 3 minutes
did a 100 squats on the incline on the total gym took around 5 minutes.
Spent around 6 minutes on the punching bag
My brother had an exercise band so put it under one of my feet and did 33 reps my form wasn't great it's a learning curve for me that took around 2 minutes.
I just look at my watch to do the timing so the times aren't that accurate but give a rough guide.

Did a 37 minute walk up a country road. Straight afterward did 10 minutes of heavy hands various moves with two 2kg dumbells in around 7 minutes did 120 squats on a total gym set at an incline in around 4 minutes lied down on the ground and benched and pressed a 12kg medicine ball for 60 reps. The walk took 37 minutes and the workout 21 minutes. I didn't feel like doing any exercise today but once I started I did a bit.
An observation I noticed was that 3 workouts ago I was just messing about not pushing myself too hard and just picked up a sandbag and pressed it a few times and really enjoyed I also just picked up an exercise band and started doing exercise rows and really enjoyed it. The reason I think I enjoyed the sandbag and exercise band was that I was in the moment and I was concentrating on the muscles by sheer fluke. I said I'd give this ago. Last few workouts was a sort of like circuit training. My mind was about getting the work in and the tempo was a bit fast. I'm a beginner and don't know if this is a weakness in the sort of circuit training I did, maybe compared to some training that focuses on the muscle more like bodybuilding. I'm just throwing that idea out their, maybe my mind just wasn't focused on the exercises today and so was less fun.

...... I didn't feel like doing any exercise today but once I started I did a bit. Overcoming inertia is the biggest obstacle. First, just do something. The feeling will follow, as you have noted.

Thanks, Mr. P. for the post. Got in a second walk and workout today Went for a 42 min walk followed by an 18 min 30-sec workout. Then did 55 press-ups on my knees in and around 4min 30 seconds did them 10, 9, 8, etc to 1. This really kept me on track Then did 4 minutes on the elliptical machine Then did 150 reps of squats using my hands to power me also on the dip bar on the total gym, which took 7minutes Finishing off with 3 minutes on the punching bag. What motivated me for this workout was hope and momentum hopefully ill be able to do min workouts or walks over the week when I get a chance. I also know that if I exercise I'm not tempted to eat unhealthily and it helps me stay away from other negative habits. Hope everybody had a nice May bank holiday.

Many years ago, I ran a lot. When I began, it was tough to just go 1 mile. In fact, I didn't even run at first. I walked and then jogged to get a mile, but I kept doing it. Almost every day - maybe one day off per week. After some years, I was running in 15K to 20K races. I didn't win, but I had a pace that let me finish somewhere in the middle most of the time. When I reached that point, I didn't even put on my shoes unless I went at least 3 miles because it took that much to discover how I felt that day. Some days, I reached 3 miles and it seemed like I had done nothing, so I kept going, usually about 6 miles sometimes more. If I felt like I had enough at 3 miles, I called that good for the day and didn't think about it until the next day when I did it again. It didn't matter at that point in my running experience whether I went 3 miles or 15 miles. 3 miles per day is plenty anyhow if you're a recreational jogger/runner.

The most I ever ran was 10 miles on the street....it was really hard on the knees and I wisely gave it up quickly My knees thanked me later After that I too mostly ran around 3 miles, I never ran competitively, just to enjoy it
