So many factors could be causing this but if I had to pick two of the most obvious reasons I'd say it's mainly down to A) Drugs, performance enhancing drugs might not seem so obvious in football/soccer but they are surely being used when so much money is involved, also cocaine is really really common in the UK football scene so I assume it is elsewhere. B) The game is played at a much faster pace now (possibly ties in to performance enhancers?) 90 minutes of sprint intervals must really take a toll.

Well they were doing ok with the cocaine and PEDs before the vaccines came along.
