You kind of made me think of something I want to experiment at the end of next year. Why the end of next year? Well Bruce a couple of reasons. I want to experiment with the Bullworker but right now I don't have one. I think I'm going to eventually buy the Bull Extreme but don't know exactlly when. My experimenting months are from December to the end of Febuary. Because of the weather my jobs are much easier these months. For what I do I mainly need endurance so I stick with what keeps my endurance up for the other months.

Bruce,
I am very interested in the fat-burning aspects of your experiment. Can you please detail your isometric protocol a bit? How long were your holds? How many of them did you do in each workout?
You lost about a pound a week. I'm wondering if you attribute this solely to the change to the isometric routine? Did you make any other changes? Did you adjust your diet? Had you been doing cardio prior to the iso routine or was that new?

Any time, mikey. Well, actually, never again. One thing to keep in mind is that this experiment was conducted by a 69 year old man with a history over of 30 years of working out. Why not? Just think when you are 99 you will have over 60 years of working out! Bruce have you noticed anything different in the way of muscle tone after your 12 weeks?

My muscles feel supple and hard. And they feel somewhat pumped after the workout, but not as hard or as pumped as after an isotonic workout.
This isometric routine does produce results. I suppose that if someone enjoys isometrics and doesn't feel the need to be the baddest guy on the block, then he'd do quite well with this. Also, someone younger than I with potential for growth would probably show some impressive gains. And this routine did increase my strength.

Also great lesson about being your own study to determine effectiveness of any system. I laugh when I see experts say something does not work when I have experienced proof that it does either personally or from others.
This may be the final chapter needed for that long overdue book to finally be crapped out for the flock. The only good chapter

It's nice to hear someone say they did x for y amount of time, and the results were z. THE BOOK cannot come out until a certain Ordained Minister of the Gospel spends months posting one thread after another of how he "invented" long-duration isometrics by adding 3 seconds to 60 seconds, and that nothing else even comes close. And then the flock will have to further wait while his hair grows to just the right length, and then he'll have to have his 700 photos taken for the most comprehensive pamphlet ever written. It will be well worth the wait.

Steve maxwell has influenced the way I exercise. Takes much less time to do one hold, sometimes adding some slow, narrow ROM movement and adding some momentary pauses/pulses. Stronger tendons means I can use more of my muscle potential.
The dip @ 12 sec and the strap hold @ 15 are the way I do those.

An interesting experiment with isometrics would be to perform a medley of them for several nearly nonstop minutes . This would test the claim that such training can be a substitute for cardio workouts . Although Maxwell uses a Forearm Forklift for his "cardio isometrics" , a Sierra Strap provides more versatility .

I do not know about Steve Maxwell's health, but in his 65, he does not look very impressive if he follows his ISO system.
