Not at all. America paid for 20 years of relative stability for the Afghans, with its money and its blood, and if the Afghan govt couldn't provide back-up logistics for their own military then where did all the money go ?
The refugees should certainly be allowed to board the plane, but pay their way like any other immigrant in manageable increments later when they've either got a job in our countries, or on the dole. Same as the Mexicans hopping over the border, and the illegals here. You want to live in a country that's been built by the workers and engineers ? Well pay for it the same way as the incumbents do with their taxes and hard work.
We've got old Turbans here who've never paid a single cent into the economy living out the rest of their days on the dole.
There's a difference between offering refuge from violent arseholes like the Taliban and sending the bill later, or just letting them sponge off the host country's people who are often facing their own serious problems. What's wrong with making sure that with the plane ride the refugees are left in no uncertainty that after they have been treated in a kind humane manner for their grief, injuries and family tragedies, then given a rest period, they will be expected to pay for their liberation and travel expenses ?
That's fair as far as I'm concerned. Set them up, then they pay their way.
Too much Biden-Bashing going on. Look at where the trouble ramped up back in Feb last year when the Trump/Taliban deal went through. 18 months relatively hands-off approach that enabled the Taliban to tool-up, train, and consolidate. One thing you should never do is give your enemy a chance to recover. Draft dodgers don't understand that.
Meanwhile the utterly corrupt Afghan govt kept on sucking the money all their way for a few-only pockets, and were unable to provide the necessary logistical support for their troops when the spoon-feeders took off. It's the same old story anywhere in the world. The Top Few grab the bulk of the goodies and leave the rest to hell with it. In Afghanistan's case, the party ended when the spoon-feeders went home, after their leader last year struck a deal with the enemy that allowed them to substantially strengthen, AND released another 5000 of their troops into the Taliban fold.
Crazy ? You bet.

Macky, the American backlash about this was that the government wanted to charge Americans.

Macky, the American backlash about this was that the government wanted to charge Americans. It's definitely a bad move on the govt's part, even letting such an idea become public, no question. The point is, what I've said in my last post still applies. The US and the world were treated to enough morons in the last govt without continuing the trend. Americans (and thousands of others) have already paid enough through their taxes and their family members' blood. The only winners are the war industrialists. Their profits and that of their shareholders is nothing less than Blood Money.
