What a breath of fresh air this discussion has been unlike the political crap I've been posting to egg everyone on. I'll call this discussion complete and "perfect" once our AWOL resident expert Parker chimes in with his finishing advice and critique of how what some of you said is absolutely false. Can't wait! By the way, where is Lardy? I think we need to have an Egg Everyone On section in addition to the Discuss Fitness, Member Workout Logs, and Training Publications, Manuals, and Courses sections so those of us that want to concentrate on the exercise half of Sierra EXERCISE can do so. Then let Bruv do the forum nazi thing.

By the way, where is Lardy? I'm still here, between trying to workout what advice is best regarding diet and having a chuckle at some of the other comments. I started doing some push ups, squats and sit ups, I now need to find a suitable place for bodyweight rows. I'm going to do some isometrics in days between and some stretching, I will continue my 2-6 mile daily walks but might add a rucksack with some weight in it? I don't know. The advice here is great and I'm very thankful for so many responses. Just remember, this diet stuff is very complicated, we're all vastly different physiologically, almost like each person is their own individual species, so what works for one isn't going to work for all. Pay particular attention when someone online spews on authoritatively about how it's just a 'myth' that reducing calories and carbs "doesn't work" to lose weight because it's all about ......(Fill in the blank). Take as evidence of their expertise all the pics you've seen of the poor souls that were in wartime 'concentration camps' for any duration of time, take note of all of the people who remained overweight in these camps despite daily calorie restrictions. Good luck sorting it all out Sincerely, Chubbsey Ubbsey

The first rule of establishing an exercise habit : have fun
I sing off-key and laugh at myself while doing several non-stop minutes of body weight squats . As usual, each to his own.

I've just tried Kin Shi-Hai DO after a suggestion by bob50 and at first I thought I'd fly through it, however I am absolutely humbled and my arms feel 3 times the size after doing the back and biceps exercises, I struggle with some of the back exercises whilst I can tense my lats in some positions others I struggle to feel it, I think I'll be doing this type of exercise again.

Lardy... As well as KSHD, you could also do some effective self resistance exercises. You can pick and choose from this site. Scroll down for the exercises: www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenandoah/OBB/OBB.htmlI still recommend daily, or at least 5 days of walking per week, and then 3 days of exercise - every other day.

Good luck sorting it all out Sincerely, Chubbsey Ubbsey I never said reducing calories or carbs doesn't work. I did not say anything complicated. Why are you going on and one with this? I said calorie deficit and balanced meals. I mentioned how I lost weight and kept it off since 2008 and did not use the lower carb way.

Example is more eloquent than words, because anyone can talk, but you cannot argue with results.

It’s like all of the ‘experts’ out there these days with the bodybuilding advice,

One other thing I would definitely recommend Lardy is try and obtain a copy of Fitness In 30 Minutes a Week by Dr. Lawrence Morehouse. It's been out for a long time and can be found from online used booksellers cheap. It was written for someone with your stated goals, and not bodybuilders.

I like to remain open to trying new ideas once in a while because, occasionally, something sticks - like my stone exercises. One suggestion for body weight rows is a very old one and that is to put a bar - broomstick, metal cast pipe, etc - across the backs of two chairs facing away from each other, then pulling up between them. I would do nice slow reps (if any), combined with hold/pauses. Can't go too crazy with the up and down with a loose bar. Also on selection of the chairs; I've found some designs are less stable for this than others. I think I remember the Capt say that he laid under a table and pulled himself up by holding the edge.

I've done both exercises you described and stability is key. I put towels over the wood chair backs to help to not slip so much. Padded chairs worked best. Dips were done on chair backs or inside corner of kitchen countertops.
