Early last year the family and caught a stomach bug that was absolutely brutal from relatives. Anyway, this one was not one the 24 hour deals and it was over. That bad effects lingered nearly a week. I don't think my gut has been the same since then, something has just been off. I haven't had constipation or anything like that, but more so on the other side of scale, sort of like Macky, trying to be in the middle, but really borderline diarrhea but not full blown runs, just one step away given the chance. Had terrible spells with acid reflux too, something I've never had as I always said I had been blessed with a gut like iron judging by what I could eat.
Anyway, to make a short story shorter, I started taking Cascara Sagrada and Aloe Juice at night before bed about a week and a half ago, and man, what a difference it has made up to this point. Back to dropping big smooth logs and I haven't had any of the heartburn or reflux. So, if any of you are having some gut issues give it a shot and it may provide you with some great relief.
one last thing, they both contain something called Emodin and it supposedly has all kinds of good effects that i am too lazy to type up.

Emodin is good stuff. Anti inflam and anti viral properties. Rhubarb has it.
I had similar issue about 10 years ago and fresh squeezed lemon juice and ginger, along with the aloe juice helped me. Did it daily for several months....it took some time or I had relapse.
Hope you stay 'regular'.

I had a near death experience that, after realizing the my MD had no clue WTF he was doing and deciding to do my own research, resulted in complete diet re-evaluation. I embarked on a food type elimination experiment which continues today if I discover by elimination that some food bothers me. I fixed the major things, like the toxic glutens, right away and then went on to fine tune to my body's preferences. It's quite rare now, when I eat or drink something unfamiliar that I learn it's one more thing to avoid, so I stick with what I know is good to me as much as possible.
One suggestion that will help with "acid" reflux, which is a lack of stomach acid, is to hit it with organic apple cider vinegar, like Bragg's, with the mother - the stuff that's murky and needs to be shaken. Just a shot is enough and will work even if diluted with water.

Yeah, I was thinking diet and food choices also. That's where I start when I feel a problem. There is no one diet or way of eating that is for everyone. Everyone's body responds, reacts, digests, etc... to food differently.

never had any issues until this stomach bug. The cascara and aloe are working wonders. I also take betaine hcl and digestive enzymes along with drinking ginger and tumeric tea.

JRMP, I'm glad You are feeling better. Just giving my opinion. If You were eating something that was killing You before that might be a sign of an underline problem with the food for Your body. It would be kind of like me if I kept eating diary knowing that I'm allergic to the protein. The problems are still going to be there even though we could mask the way we feel after eating something that doesn't agree with us. When we are younger we can get away with certain things but as we age they will catch up with us.

Yes, I've found that what, specifically, is agreeable or disagreeable to my body is not static, but does tend to change a little over time while staying within certain general boundaries. I've learned a lot from the experiences shared by others.

Glad you sorted it.
There are many causes of acid reflux. A common cause is a hiatus hernia, which affects many people as they age.

After the bug everything seemed off. Now all is good.

I eat mexican last night and loaded my salsa up with habanero sauce and not a single issue! heck, it just took one single piece of precious toilet paper to take care of the clean up!
also had a great workout this evening!
