Jack Lalanne was great. I love his no BS responses in that interview. I wonder what turn in life would have happened if Jack had taken up more genteel pursuits? I guess there's something to be said for moderation & having an old-fashion game of golf now & then? I ain't busting my ass or use TRT like Athlean-X or inject HGH like Sylvester Stallone. Nutritionist Michael Colgan & trainer Tony Horton are who I most aspire to & fetch attainable results. I'm still undecided about "The China Study" (more veggies, less meat). Moxohol stop worrying Yourself to death. U haven't got much use for theory. You're a blue collar type guy who favors pragmatism. I'm hip to that. I'm disabled sitting behind a computer all day wearing glasses & a pocket protector doing actuary tables. Who do u think is going to have a more nuanced worldview or bore u with details? ME!

I get it Moxohol. I know You like all that stuff, nothing wrong with that if that's what You like. Just don't worry Yourself to death about how long You're going to live and what not. Yeah, we're all into health and fitness but don't let it consume You. Do what You enjoy. Honestly most of it is really simple.

You're missing my point: It's got nothing to with like or dislike or fretting over lifespan. It's got more to do with ones character. I analyze everything to death in detail because that's my nature. Ask me a simple question & I'll write u war & peace. Sorta like macky.

Ask me a simple question & I'll write u war & peace. Sorta like macky. Yes but not quite. I'll write War and Peace, but only in answer to apparently simple questions that require more detailed answers. At the last, the fundamentals are the most important to me. That's where everything starts from (or should) and the expansions are often only further commentary. Or someone trying to make complicated excuses for fundamental failures.

Well, I've completed 12 marathons, ran a 26-mile event, did 9 training runs in excess of 30 miles, and completed 14 half-marathons, and more than 50 5 and 10k events, most after age 35...I ran my last race at age 53...when I started running I weighed 270, and two years later I was down 100 pounds, but the weight loss included a lot of muscle mass I'll never see again...I'm 63...how much longer do I have...

Your healthspan & median lifespan is decided by epigenetics which is heavily influenced by diet of which autophagy plays a great part. In fact, Yoshinori Ohsumi won the 2016 Nobel Prize in medicine for autophagy which helps slow down the aging process and has a positive impact on cell renewal. Autophagy is also important because of mitogenesis which is why fasting is classified as an exercise mimetic. It may sound trite but it's must be a pretty damn important discovery just to hand out 200k on a whim. Peace Prize is a bullshit category I admit. They gave it to Yasser Arafat remember?

You are the second to reference Ohsumi, epigenetics and autophagy/fasting as "imitation exercise," as one nutritionist told me.
Re the running; an MCL strain during my last marathon ended my career, and after I recovered I had no desire to run any distance longer than 200m. However, one of the orthopedic doctors I talked to after the injury - I think it was a Level II strain, or something like that - he was a retired surgeon in his early-80s who was still running 5 miles 4 days a week, and he did not recommend surgery, but instead advised me to return to weight training with relatively heavy weights, compound movements (pretty much what I was doing prior to devoting myself to running) and educate myself as to the benefits of fasting as therapy. I didn't know it at the time, but the doc had torn an ACL four years before I met him, and he allegedly healed himself following this advice; no surgery.
