I do like splits sometimes. With kettlebells I like upper/lower, grinds/ballistics, and whole body which isn't a split. If I use a upper/lower body split I'll do Day 1 upper body, Day 2 lower body, Day 3 rest/corrective stuff, Day 4 repeat Day 1, Day 5 repeat Day 2, Day 6 & 7 rest/ corrective stuff. Whole body is three days a week with rest days in between. I have done Push,Pull, Legs in the past. When I did it I would only do legs once a week, so I'd train 5 days a week. I've also have done other bodybuilding splits. I've never had a problem with any of them if I used common sense. You just have to realize that the amount of sets and exercises in magazines is over exaggerated. Make sure you do over do it and rest. More isn't always better. I wouldn't over analyze it, there's no magic pill.

When I feel strong and good, I push myself a little. I do something(s) every day, but I try hard not to exceed an effort that would take longer than 24hrs to recover and repeat. My impression of those magazines is that they exist to sell stuff, glorify high achieving/juiced BB'ers, intended to make a person give up and spend more money on supplements, personal trainers and whatever commerce they can wrench out of a guy. Once in a while, there's a decent article that approaches usefulness to me, but not worth the money. I think I own 4 or 5 total and one is a Bruce Lee special ed. I bought them several years ago when starting out, but quickly realized they had nothing to tell me. Edit: IMO, a person can learn anything health/fitness related right here on the Sierra forum that will help guide them to a satisfying exercise experience. I'm sure there are guys who check in here who can more specifically answer your question.

I started to lift weights to try to be attractive to girls when I was younger. , but no training can help my face so that ruined that idea. I do believe some bodybuilding splits can be done with common sense and less ego. Jason from Natural Gallant Bodybuilding has a sensible approach and it works for him.

Throughout the drug free era the norm was to do full body workouts.
I’ve tried pretty much every type of program out there. The truth is that it is pretty easy to develop your body naturally provided you work hard and recover. I don’t like splits myself because your nervous system is getting hit hard so many times per week that it is easy to feel overtrained.
The key is to pick a way of training that enables you to make progress. If you make progress for 5 years you’ll probably have built all the muscle that you ever will. You’ll continue to be able to get stronger, but size gains will probably come from getting fat. Or if you do gain muscle size while bulking you’ll discover you lose it when cutting.
A full body routine done two or three times per week works great.
If you’re on drugs though, then sure, ramp up the volume and use splits.

The most critical aspect for a natural trainee, aside from nutrition, is good sleep & sunlight exposure. High Vitamin D levels elevates growth hormone. Both contribute to recovery. I'd also add fasting on recovery days as an essential factor too. I eat like a slob on training days only.

I had learned from bodybuilding mags, and for years I split an upper body routine - pushing exercises one day, pulling, lifting exercises the next. The problem with that, though, is that you can't absolutely separate muscles that come into play when doing one or the other. And then years ago I heard about supersetting and started doing a complete upper body workout on one day, alternating between pushing exercises, and pulling, lifting exercises. I think that was about 15 years ago, and I've been doing that ever since - upper body one day, legs the next day.
