I have been on here for a few years, can't recall anyone talking about this topic, but it probably has happened. I bought a cheapo model, like a little tent your head sticks out of and a steam apparatus heats up the inside. I have to say it is an invigorating experience, 20 minutes in this thing is a test of endurance. Lots of claims online about the benefits. I can see how the sweat lodges resulted in visions and altered states of consciousness, not that I'm going for that, but I think the overall benefit is that the extreme benefit stresses the body, it tries to bring you back to homeostasis, the heart rates rises, etc. It's enjoyable in an odd way. And I don't have to hang out at the bath house

Dr.Rhonda Patrick, a poster of her is thumbtacked to Gruntbrain’s bedroom ceiling that he uses for his manhood target practice, is a big proponent of saunas.

There's another guy who seems familiar that talked about watching his uncles and grandfather emerging from the sauna, when he was a kid. Apparently rubbing snow on the glistening muscles and breathing deeply is also very invigorating. The guy didn't say for who, though.

I have been researching them lately. There is so much conflicting information about the safety, etc. of the infrared ones. I might build a traditional one this winter. Until then I have been taking a poor man's sauna. I get in my car on a hot day, keep the windows up, and turn on the heat full blast. I keep forgetting to bring a thermometer when I do this to see how hot it is inside the car. I figure if it is 90 degrees outside it is at least 110 degrees in the car without the heater on. Combined with the heater, who knows. I really do sweat and so far have not been in any accidents. Like captkronos says, it is invigorating. But it also sure feels good to turn on the AC after 15 or 20 minutes of that.

I’m a big believer and (was) a 5x a week doer of saunas, prior to them all being shut down by the pandemic.
Gyms have reopened, but saunas and steam baths remain closed.
it’s been since March 15th. I miss them, and their benefits.
