From the Battle Ropes thread where pierinifitness was talking about being efficient at one cardio element and not in another rang true with me. When I was in the Marine Corps I got efficient in running and rucking, but when we would go to the pool, we all would be in a world of hurt. Mainly because we never swam much for PT and only when for Swim qual. I was never a great swimmer per say because I am one of the folks that cannot float, straight to the bottom for me. Along with that I was never super comfortable in the water. My 10 year old son is so comfortable and relaxed in the water that it amazes me.
I'm not interested in doing official crossfit stuff, but they seem to be fairly efficient at most cardio based tasks. From running, sprinting, rucking, biking, loaded carries, and swimming, they seem to have the bases covered. I'm just wondering what would be the activity that they would feel the pain like I would when we would hit the pool? Some type of crawling or grappling maybe?

Probably some kind of boxing, since as well as maybe not being used to the movement you have to be able to keep calm while getting hit.

It's talked about here (the inefficiency thing): www.t-nation.com/training/tip-the-20-minutes-of-anything-workout"...cardio for fat loss is all about being inefficient. If you get efficient – really good at one form of activity – you'll burn less fat doing it. So cardio for fat loss really is where you want to "keep the body guessing." You don't want to get too good at any one form of cardio. If you do that, then you'll have to do MORE of it. And who wants to do more cardio? So, variety and unfamiliar activities work best for metabolic conditioning." And here: www.t-nation.com/training/tip-be-inefficient-to-lose-fat"Fat loss exercise is about being completely inefficient. Most forms of cardio work for a few weeks. Then, you get good at it and progress stops. This has always been the problem with jogging for fat loss. Sure, jogging a mile works at first if you're not used to it and are inefficient, but soon you'll need two miles, then three, etc. to get the same effect. You become efficient, and soon you're adding miles and miles just to maintain. And then you get hurt. And fat."

I think handdowns..Im convinced that heavyhands and Isotonometrics..are all comprehensive..I say that with any program using the principles...but also the fluidity of protocols seperates it...as you can train virtually any biomechanical movement for any art or sport or event..and all you need is...handclasp knowledge and dumbells never exceeding 15 pounds..id say 5,8,10,12,15 pound dumbells..

machine head, thanks for link and post about cardio inefficiency. Let me share my thoughts.
I do agree with diminishing returns coming from cardio efficiency. The way to trump this is with ramping up the intensity either loads, reps, exercises making up a circuit, number of rounds and/or recovery time between rounds.
It’s the cardio version of progressive resistance. For best results, wear a heart rate monitor and measure cardiovascular performance and workout performance. It’s the only way I know. I don’t trust my perception. As my saying goes, “there’s deception in perception.”

Performing a medley of exercises non-stop using a suspension device is a decent way to achieve cardio benefits . Optionally use a heart rate monitor to avoid delusional effort .

One of the reasons I like to exercise with various stone weights and shapes is due to the challenge of managing the awkwardness of using them, especially when I lift one around 10K higher than my shoulder. Some of the shapes in that range are more difficult to get a secure grip, so it takes some constant attention and adjustment to keep it balanced in my hand.

A guaranteed way to kick someone’s ass is padding out in surf. It’s hard to find any activity that has a good carry over.
My ex used to be a pro swimmer and still swam to an elite standard but was always saying to me how tiring it was paddling out in surf on a board. Whereas I’d find it easy in the same conditions as I’m used to it.

I also seem to forget that their is the aerobic component in isometric work. Takes me back to grappling, there is loads of isometrics involved from various positions and its so draining. Working with a grappling dummy with maximum isometric pressure in different positions for 10-30 seconds before transitioning explosively to another we wear you out in a flash.
Getting ready to do 30 minute of heavy hands/ankles followed by 50 Iron Wolf Burpees. If I've got any extra I'm going to work the grappling bag and the heavy bag.

The Javorek complexes compliments heavy hands work because it allows a little heavier dumbbells.

Google search result for "javorek complex" (it filled in the "complex", so I only actually had to type, "javorek").

This thread reminds me of performing cleans and presses( or jerks) with my sandbag for several non-stop minutes
