As some of you might already know, I am always on the lookout for easing my culinary experiences. The discovery of the apple slicer greatly enhanced the quality of my life, as I am always assured of having apple slices with my breakfast. Squeezing oranges on one of those twist-it-around-the-protrusion-in-the-cup thingy was a drag, and the purchase of a hand-held squeezer made squeezing the juice out of oranges fun and easy.
And now we move on to what had been the bane of my existence - slicing tomatoes. I have to have spinach and tomatoes on my sandwiches. Have to. Piling what I want on to a sandwich is effortless all the way up to the spinach. But then comes the necessary tomato. I have to slice slices, place a couple of slices on my sandwich, wrap the rest in saran wrap and place it in the refrigerator, happy in the knowledge that I won't have to slice another tomato the next day, knowing that I will have to pay the piper for that one day of respite. And then I have to rinse off the cutting board.
Never again! I say never again!! I was preparing to make a sandwich today when I took a deep breath and steeled myself for the unpleasant task ahead. As I was reaching for a dreaded tomato, out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of a package of cherry tomatoes. And a sudden epiphany washed over me. I slammed the top slice of bread down on top of my tomato sliceless sandwich, and then piled a few cherry tomatoes on the plate next to my sandwich. As I settled in to watch a Love Boat rerun, I just popped cherry tomatoes as I moved along on my sandwich. Hallelujah!
This is a small thing, I know, but if my posting this has enriched just one life, then it was worth the amount of time it took to type this.
