I messed with my chain 3 or 4 days in a row, but took today off. I could feel it.

I can be a bad ass at one of them and humbled by another. I remember years ago when I was a gym rat and sort of beastly on several cardiovascular-oriented workouts I decided one day to take a test drive on the step machine that's like your climbing an escalator. After about 3 minutes, I quit. My body wasn't familiar with it. Dan John is a big proponent of finding what you’re not good at (he calls it inefficient exercise) and using that as your go to exercise for conditioning until you become efficient at it. I don't know if there really is a big "velocity training" fitness secret to be tapped into through doing battling ropes in exactly the right way, but I bet for most people this is the best use of them.

I may experiment with "battling bulk heavy resistance tubing" for cardio workouts. I'd initially use a pull up bar as an anchor but I'll experiment with multiple level anchors .

That looks crazy expensive ! I've been doing the ropes consistently for a few weeks now, and am starting to make progress. I absolutely love working out with the ropes and they're still kicking my ass every workout ! My recommendation to anyone looking to get into using Battle Ropes is to go for the 1.5 inch diameter X 50 foot rope. At least get the 40 foot rope if you don't have the room for the 50 footer. Remember, you double up on the rope so actual length of the 50' is 25 feet in use...AND you don't use the rope in the outstretched position so it's even less than 25 feet, if anyone needs the 'field' measurement let me know and I'll get it for you.

I didn't do shit today. I hung a bit though. Maybe I'll feel like it later. I measured the longer log chain that I have installed now. It's 20', so 10' per leg. I don't think I need it to be any longer right now. After several days of it, I began to take a lot of pleasure out of moving them in different ways while pumping. Alt arms up and down. Arms together in rhythm. Side to side arm movement. Kinda cool. All done in a semi-squat position. Feels like full body stuff except of maybe calves being used to stabilize, I don't know about the physical mechanics of it. Only how it feels.

As I've been using my chain, I've had to deal with the ring that the chain is attached to, jumping up the T-post and hanging up on the nubs on the flat side. IT was pulling the T-post off its angle, toward me. I had intentionally set it at angle away from me to prevent it from slipping up, off the T-post and popping me in the ?. I finally figured out how to stop that jumping up the post today. I dropped a 5# Std plate down the post on it. I have another 3, 5# plates if I need them, but for now, it works great.

Hey Magz, Are you still into the battling ropes thing? How is it going?
What benefits have you noticed, if anything?

Hey Magz, Are you still into the battling ropes thing? How is it going? What benefits have you noticed, if anything? YES ! I absolutely love using the ropes Purchased a 'Gymboss' timer and have been doing intervals which has definitely increased my stamina. When not doing intervals I also enjoy 'circuit' training and began using a few other implements that I consider highly effective. Here's what I'm doing as far as 'circuits' right now: 1. Ropes 2. Husafell Replica Carry 3. Mace 360's 4 Kettlebell Swings *Not necessarily in that order

So, you would say that increased stamina is the main benefit you've noticed? Anything else? I like your mix of exercises. Good stuff. I usually do the chain exercises in 1 or 2 sessions, or sets if you prefer, and intervals of fast/slow plus various movements. I've noticed that if I go too hard I may only go at it for one session, but 2 is typical. It feels good and is easy to do so much that I'm too sore to want to do it again the next day, especially if I go for 3 sessions. I also my do multiple sessions spaced out through the day instead of consecutive. Sure gives a good all-over pump and feels super. I sometimes wonder how rope would compare with the feel of using the chain, but I'm not unhappy at all with what I'm doing.
I found this and thought it was interesting:

Of course, the devil is in the details about number of rounds, each exercise duration and recovery time between rounds. Nonetheless, tough!

I'm still kind of new at using them, but I'd say the ropes are also excellent for strength building and overall strength endurance. I switch back and forth between 1.5" and 2" ropes, and that thicker rope is no picnic, it fries the grip and forearm. Recently I convinced a gym rat friend of mine (whose gym was closed due to Covid-19) to buy a 50' X 1.5" rope and asked him what he thought after he'd used it... He's a commercial gym veteran that's been working out steadily for over 20 years, and he has the physique of a competitive bodybuilder. He described the rope with one word..."vicious"...

At this point when doing this particular circuit I'm up to 20 seconds of Ropes, and the Husafell carry varies but I try to get at least 50-70 steps. The Mace 360's also vary but I try to do between 25-50 in each direction, and the K'bell swings are also in the 25-50 range. I try for 3 to 5 rounds. I mostly train by instinct and 'feel', so things aren't always necessarily within the aforementioned sequence and/or rep parameters. I'll sometimes save the swings for one long rep set at the end of the workout, shooting for a single set of 100 reps with my 55 pounder, or I might save the Mace work for the long rep sets at the end, depending on the mood

Here’s my effort at 100 swings timed with a 24kg KB: A sub 3 minutes heart thumper.
