Okay, I'm going to go for it, and state right out that you American fellas who are members of this board and who are all wonderful friends of mine are in danger. I'll tell you why from my own experience, not necessarily media.
Just under one year ago I posted a thread on AMMII, a site which among the humour and other discussions, focuses on the founder and leader of Transformetrics. He is well known as someone who is not to be trusted, who tells chronic lies without conscience, narcissistic to the point of serious delusion e.g. his worldview, and nobody knows better than him etc. His treatment of those who support him is merely usage and not much else. He attacks his "enemies", labeling them as Wile E Coyotes as a general term for anyone who disagrees with him.
The list goes on, well documented, a long history of such behaviour. I have said on more than one occasion that if JP had 20 points more IQ he would be a very dangerous person indeed.
I believe Trump is that person who has that 20 points extra.
I posted a comparison of JP to Trump, partly from an article in a respected NZ magazine (The Listener) and was quite surprised by the response on AMM, nearly getting my head bitten off. You can read it here agingmachomen.foroactivo.com/t2325-jp-and-t-ronald-dump-swap-notes but what was most noticeable to me was the support for Trump "and what he has done since he came to power" and the automatic comparisons to Obama and previous administrations etc.
While I acknowledged that may be true, and understood (and actually agreed with later in private messages, that they voted for Trump because he WASN'T a career politician) I hastened to explain that I was only comparing his BEHAVIOUR with JP, not his achievements. I agreed with some of the AMM comments, and still do.
Firstly, let's get some basic principles in place so the Incredulous can hopefully get a grip of what I'm saying, and trying to warn everybody here about.
I've always been skeptical of those who place labels on themselves, not that they are untrustworthy, (because most of them are intelligent and reliable people) but because those labels are often self-limiting in the area of balanced critical analysis. For example, my own grandfather was a dedicated Labour party supporter. Labour (Red and "Left") and National (Blue and "Right) are like the two main parties in the US, are the two main parties in NZ. Actually, the distinctions are only mere labels, because National at one stage was certainly a virtual socialist dictatorship, and the new Labour govt in 1984 was possibly the most Right-wing administration NZ had ever had up until then.
Nevertheless, in the mind of my grandfather (who was a man to be admired, gentle, helpful, much loved by all) Labour Could Do No Wrong, and this mindset was reflected (whichever way) by many I have met in the course of my lifetime.
This mindset which can become deeply ingrained can restrict the holder of any examination of the "opposition's" viewpoint and in fact can ignore anything untowards of "their" own party. As well, any criticism of their leader can result in automatic comparisons with the other party, irrespective of what was actually said, which is what happened on AMM.
That mindset is no more strongly demonstrated than by those here on this forum, as what I would believe exists in a general way in America today (and has for a long time), the labels Republican and Democrat self-defining a huge number of citizens politically, if nothing else. That mindset is played up by those who aspire to political power in many ways, political arguments constantly referring back to their own party's good achievements, and focusing on the "opposition's" bad achievements and lack of good ones. Ad nauseum, I might add.
That has been quite apparent in the last ten years since I've been a member of this forum, and has extended at times to completely off-the-wall and unprovable criticisms of the "other party" and its members. That was demonstrated only a few days ago by Capitaine's description of the "left" and almost immediate support by our Man in Figures, pierini.
That this mindset is cemented by years of political indoctrination is perfectly as apparent as a self-labeled supporter of a football team, something which I will expand on soon has led to violence in our country, and has minor outbreaks of rage and violence every weekend when various sports here are played. That's apart from the violence of the sports themselves.
As I say, these so-called differences in the two parties that politicians take advantage of in order to advance their election campaigns become increasingly divisive and polarizing among their respective supporters, and in fact that apart from direct military conquest, serve to do the one most important things that any politician, any religious leader, seeks to do, and that is to CONTROL THE MINDS OF THE PEOPLE TO THEIR OWN (and that of their crew) WILL.
Therefore, any citizen, intelligent or not, kind or not, normally sensible or not, that self-labels themselves is automatically limiting their own thought processes and rendering themselves under a form of control that promotes an "us or them" attitude that is often exploited by extreme leaders in history who had a world view that did not tolerate dissent of any nature whatsoever, and used what was supposed to be different ways of handling democracy and controlled debate, into a regime where THEIR OWN WILL AND WORLD VIEW IS PREDOMINANT AND NOTHING ELSE.
That world leader is among you now. His mental stability has been questioned well before his campaigns for president, and as I've said in so many posts I've put forward, in so many ways Donald Trump is a dictator in the making, and America is in danger of effectively coming under martial law and violence, as Trump begins to blame anyone else but himself in the increasing evidence of the spread of Covid-19, the glaring trivialization by Trump of it's serious nature (not in his world view therefore it "will go away soon"), and his administration's short-comings.
Those daily failures, the ever-increasing numbers of Covid cases and resulting deaths, don't bother Trump at all, personally. Widespread death and destruction don't bother dictators, that is part of the "necessary process" of the "evolution of their countries" and their elevation over everybody else.
In Trump's case, it is the elevation of America (Let's Make America Great Again) which he sees will cement his position as the ultimate leader of the world, that drives Trump to ignore the glaring reality which is presented to him every day, all day, in the increasing Covid American statistics. He views all that not as a tragedy, but as an impediment to his presidency and his fixated narcissistic view of himself and his "ultimate" place in the world.
That I have had the opportunity since I joined AMMII to investigate JP and his mental characteristics, the almost knee-jerk responses of Trump-defence when I merely compared their identical traits, my life experiences with the way that fixated self-labeling and false values can affect a large bulk of the population, and some elementary confirmations of Trump's and JP's probable mental illnesses, has brought me to this point that I believe that Trump will try and blame anybody he can for the explosion of the virus through out America at some point he only knows, or might not know. He may even blame the Democrats, mobilizing Republicans that are now virtual Trumpublicans to assert more and more resolute action in support of himself.
Transcripts of some of his rallies reveal very little of substance, unproven generalisms, while the baying crowd (always a danger) yell and whistle to every inane utterance of their idol. Which to them is what Trump has become.
Ensuing violence has been nowhere more proven to be a possibility than in my own homeland, where in a slightly different situation inasmuch as the resident dictatorial prime minister was not suffering from mental problems, used such divisive and polarizing attitudes to quietly push through serious and important economic changes while everybody was, if not actually fighting, preoccupied with the 1981 Springbok rugby tour of New Zealand.
This was a classic demonstration where violence can erupt over the most trivial of pursuits (sport) to where even families are divided at the kitchen table. In NZ, rugby is a near-religion in many quarters. To the rural population especially, it is part and parcel of Kiwi culture, and a huge part of the general scene.
Where the Springbok tour was welcomed by rugby fans everywhere, by the times of 1981, racial awareness had become far more part of the public's awareness, and an anti-racial movement (HART) had sprung up and was bitterly opposed to any tour (sport or otherwise) by a country that practiced racial separatism, such as South Africa. There were violent demonstrations, fighting, and even a venue that had to be shut down due to aerial bombing of flour bombs. Our yard of around 90 workers was divided by little groups of either supporters or otherwise, some bewildered at what was happening in a country that seemed so normally reasonable.
Carrying on with my usual tasks by myself, I was approached quietly by members of both factions and asked what were my thoughts on this serious matter that had befallen our land. I quietly replied to both groups that my view was that whoever was ultimately right, it was a sad day in NZ's history that longtime friendships were ending, and normally placid individuals were happily prepared to go and bludgeon other fellow-Kiwis with batons, over a game where supposedly grown men were running around a green paddock chasing a bag of wind.
In nearly all cases, the look on their faces was one that they may have presented to some sort of alien, as I imagine some of you may be "looking" at me now.
I am no health professional, which is why my summing up of JP and Trump are only strong opinions backed by the examination of sites such as Wiki that describe mental illness such as Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and various signs of delusions and the way they can affect the sufferer's behaviour. That I am at least on the right track (as far as JP is concerned) has been confirmed by PM and the same opinions shared by mental health professionals that the PM knew.
NPD and similar aberrations can be contagious. Not by medically physical means obviously, but someone with such a disorder can affect those who are having their longtime self-labeled affiliations used on them from afar , and impressed especially on those who work around him.
People here have been Republicans (or Democrats) long before Trump ever hit the campaign trail. Now they are Trumpublicans, almost completely controlled in their minds and emotions by Trump and his regime. Their longtime divisions that should have remained as different colours of the same democracy, have now been exploited by a man, like JP, who would be King above all else.
That those signs I have presented over many posts, of many different aspects of Trump's behaviour, have not had the slightest effect on normally intelligent members here, shows how entrenched we can all become, as the Germans were pre-WW2. Most of those aspects have not even been specifically answered to, which is why I decided to make one last effort to warn my friends who are guilty of nothing more than to support their country and way of life, but are looking at someone who is leading them steadily away from reality into his own world.
This world pandemic of a tricky little creature that has brought even the largest war machines to a standstill, has demonstrated in bold type to all around the world, except Trump's supporters, of his unreliable nature of his own exalted self-importance, his disdain for reality except his own, and other signs such as the labels he has placed on sources of not only criticism but even questioning his authority as "enemies of the people", closing down news interviews without answering questions, and the subsequent labeling any threat to his fragile ego as "Fake News", as a person in my opinion that even one year ago I regarded as not fit to hold any office, never mind that of leader of perhaps the most powerful nation on Earth.
My warning to all my friends here in America, is to expect the possibility of extreme action from your President at any time, and be prepared for your own divisions to be exploited as either "the true people of America" or "enemies of the people", according to your leader's decree. As I've said, with everything of threat coming together in the United States with its inevitable disruption and disorder, the time is ripe for a dictator-type to take over complete control of the country. That time is now, and I hope for all your sakes, I am wrong.
