Trump and his crew wasted two months not taking Covid-19 seriously. That's why the US has the greatest number of cases and deaths now.
Even in Bruce's Kansas of some 3 million people, today's Worldometer figures register 4536 cases and 138 deaths, and that's since Bruce reported the first in Kansas March 8 on this thread. NZ with nearly 5m has a third of that number of cases and has just reported the 20th death. What was/is different about NZ's response and the US of which Kansas is part of ?
That first case on Jan 20 that Trump indicated not worrying about when it was first flagged up to him could have been contained with any others that appeared later if he had taken decisive action right then.
Now this joke that's going around the globe of campaign face masks is making Trump and his cronies the laughing stock of the world. It's like some Alice In Wonderland performance, except I'm pretty sure what those that have lost loved ones and had their jobs curbed will not be laughing. Vice prez didn't even wear a facemask to a medical facility. He was the only one not wearing one. How fargin disrespectful and cavalier can he get ? Even if he doesn't believe in them, he at least could have shown his support to those at the front end trying to keep his country intact.
America has been looked to for leadership in our countries here in the South Seas, both Oz and NZ for a very long time. Like us, other countries around the globe have taken America's cue when it went to war, or on other matters of economic or security importance. Everything that has been seen as good has largely come from America after Britain ditched us and joined the old European Common Market. We saw the United States as being far more relevant in the region, except for the royalist carry-over. Our culture has reflected America as much as it reflected Britain before. Especially in music.
I've had emails from people here over the last few weeks and what they think of Trump is not complimentary at all. It's easy to be popular when things are going right, but when things go wrong as I've said before, the mark of a great leader is how he/she acted in the face of adversity.
I'm sure Trump has done some good things, but his performance over Covid 19 will put a black mark on his record as prez no doubt about it. One look at America's Covid-19 figures on Worldometer (assuming they are reasonably reliable) demonstrate that only too well.

Well I knew that many liked their McDonald's here in South Auckland but I was surprised to read of people queueing up in their cars before dawn when the fast food outlets were allowed drive-in sales, after NZ went to Level 3 a few days ago.
Just when I thought I was above it all, my daughter and grand-daughter bring home a bucket of Kentucky Fried, coleslaw, mashed spud and gravy, and chips. At least it was a lot better than McDonalds cardboard and their shitty thin fries. Not that I've had any of that for yonks. Actually the last time I had McDonalds I felt crook afterwards and that was about four years ago.
We tried to figure out how long it had been since we had had KFC and we could go back to at least nine years, because my eldest grandson has never had it at home, and he's just turned nine.
Given the small fortune my daughter spent on all the stuff, it will probably be another nine years before we can afford it again.
On the other hand, it's sad in a way when so many feel the need to queue up in the dark craving for an expensive scoff of bland fatty rubbish. A lot are Pacific Islanders and they are the last people who can afford to get any bigger than they already are, with all the health problems they face.

Trump's early actions have been advised by the WHO, the CDC, Fauci and others of that ilk who advised him to not take action, to do nothing. Presidents have a difficult job and count on those around them to give them info they can use effectively and positively. Every advisor has some bias and agenda, even if it is to supply him with truth and useful ideas - which he wasn't getting. He continues to impress me with the way he is sorting through all of the BS though and I will continue to pray for him. For example; The "disinfectant" media joke is stupid. He never told anyone to inject or to ingest disinfectant. Anyone who is gullible enough to believe that he actually told people to do that is part of the problem. He was just brainstorming live with doctors, which he is obviously not. RE: face masks Wear one if you like. They are as effective as putting chain link around your yard to keep out mosquitos. So if the WHO advised Trump not to take action, then given the already spreading problem of Covid 19 by the time it hit the US, the videos coming out of China with crowded hospital corridors with people on stretchers with blankets or sheets over their faces, then what were the WHO thinking ? Was Trump listening to the WHO for two months after the first case hit the US, before taking decisive action ? There was plenty of evidence before and after the 20th Jan that things were serious.
Yes I know presidents have a difficult job. They campaign to get themselves elected knowing that. I cannot see how you would be able to say that Trump wasn't getting useful ideas/advice. We don't know what goes on in the corridors of power. We also know that Trump has had useful advice by professionals in the past during his tenure and ignored them, often sacking them as well.
The article that I saw that mentioned the disinfectant never said that Trump TOLD anybody to get injected, it was worded that he brought it up as speculation, that's all. He might have been joking. He's not a doctor, as you say.
Whether the masks are effective or not was not the point I was making about the vice-prez. I would have thought he would have worn one out of respect for the front-liners he was visiting. Everybody else was, if the article was true. As vice-prez he also has a duty to be seen to be "with" those that are actually doing the work. Not wearing a mask when everyone else was is really bad form. It's an indication of how remote he is from reality. Or at least seems that by his actions.
It's like the prez. They have to be seen to be building morale among the People, making speeches that inspire and motivate etc. That's what's expected of a leader and his 2IC. People WANT to look up to a leader that truly leads and inspires. The president of the United States is prominent around the world in many nations' citizens' minds. When Trump says one thing one day then the opposite the next, how do you think the global population feel ? It's more than just America. The US IS the world, to many people.
Like I said, I'm sure Trump has done some good things, and I've said in another post that sometimes it's the people behind the Figurehead that are the real culprits, but I also said before that when citizens remember their history during some reflection, or talking about it to their friends, they refer to the country under Trump or when Trump was prez, not the head of the CDC or other also-rans who might have been more responsible in the long run. At the last, the buck stops at the Top. That's what people focus on, right or wrong. That's what gets Trump into the next term or not.
In the meantime are all those arguments he's having with reporters who try and ask him questions not true ? How about his walkouts ? Are they not true either ?

I think it’s a brilliant idea from our CEO of the USA and America’s Chief Marketeer to the world. But, I don’t do masks and won’t be getting one.
May buy one, though, for my older fitness brother from a different mother, Mr. Gruntdaddy

The irony of these tacky masks is mind-boggling, especially for those who have lost loved ones. Like I said in another thread, every time Trump opens his mouth, with his limited vocabulary, he hands more votes to Biden.

The posters here seem to disagree, but where I am, all I see is people utilizing custom or unique masks. Looks like a fashion statement. We're forced to wear masks here. I think some people may be requesting these masks, I've witnessed it. Like I said in another thread, every time Trump opens his mouth, with his limited vocabulary, he hands more votes to Biden. I completely disagree. Even though I definitely don't like or agree with some of the things says or how he says them, I think that goes both ways. I lose respect and such with people the way they attack and attempt to goat him in the press hoping to get a poor response. It goes both ways, if Trump can't do, say, or act in a certain way then no one can.

Yeah, that 'yahoo' article is total nonsense, written by a moron...
...and btw, if anyone hasn't realized by now, Biden has about as much chance at the U.S.presidency as does the Chinese guy that ate the virus infected bat over in Wuhan LOLOLOL

New Jersey Governor made it mandatory to wear a mask or face covering. You can't go into any stores without one.

Ima get me one of the Transformetrics masks. They are due out in time for Covid-31.
Politically I think we remain as divided as ever. One side won't listen to anything the other side says and vice versa. It could be Atilla the Hun vs Stalin and each side would back their man to the hilt. Thank you social media for making it so easy for us to delegate our critical thinking. I don't think it makes any difference who is in, it's more of the same on a lot of levels.
Just about every country wasted time on Covid-19. No one wanted to panic the people or hurt their economy, not realizing that those things were coming regardless. Ostriches, one and all.
