Obviously massively overpriced and you could get a cheap hammer to do these things, but I like the idea of functional fitness and the possibilities of a simple tool to be used for strength training and cardio at the same time. chopfit.com/I remember seeing an article somewhere that was originally written in 1918 or so about a guy who worked out with one too, a sledgehammer, and showed the moves that he did with it, which did not include whacking a tire with it.

This is interesting, easier to do for less, and the website works: shovelglove.com/

For $145 I think money would be better spent on a couple of kettlebells.

I would say if You enjoy doing a certain kind of exercise You should do what You like. No matter what anyone says. When I do my exercise I do not want to use anything that simulates any of my work. I enjoy my KBs, DBs, and of course The Hook.

Good find, Ganesha ! The similar 'RMT Club' has already been out awhile and comes in either 4 or 8 pound weights for around $110... I don't own an RMT Club, just a bunch of 'regular' steel clubs from 5 to 45 pounds, and the workouts with them are BRUTAL and very effective. An additional benefit to using weighted clubs is the grip workout that they provide, as a matter of fact your grip will probably be the limiting factor at the beginning, so stick with it !!!

Anytime someone asks for exercise routine recommendations I always suggest beginning with the method they like whether it be bodyweight, weights, kettlebells, isometrics, the HOOK, or whatever. The exercise methodology a person enjoys doing is what they will stick with.

...or to possibly prevent one ! You're looking at the only thing that can stop a badguy with an axe: I normally have something on me that can, but it's certainly not one of those.

When you think of soldiers of the past, I would guess the drilling they did with their weapons was the main fitness routine they did and it would have been completely applicable to what they needed to do in combat.
