10 litres/kg is almost exactly the same as 1 gallon/lb. Isn't that weird?

10 litres/kg is almost exactly the same as 1 gallon/lb. Isn't that weird? "A pint is a pound the world around" That's a little mnemonic we use here in the USA, which is still on at outdated system.
It's even more complicated than that. Check this out:

I was brought up on the imperial system. Love it. It's got soul. The metric is all right for easy multiplication, but not so good for division into whole numbers. Science uses it, but I don't like it.
I like one chain for a cricket pitch between wicket sets. Fathoms for what's under the boat to the sea floor. An ounce of common sense. 20,000 leagues under the sea. A guinea payment for services rendered. Or a quid and a shilling.
There are 360 degrees in a circle. Equivalent to one nautical mile per minute of degree. Can be divided by all the single-digit numbers except 7, with multiples of those divisors also able to fit equally into 360.
What's wrong with Fahrenheit temperature. I understand 212 boiling point better than a hundred centigrade, now Celsius. We changed to dollars back in 1967 here in NZ. I called it Dismal Currency (not decimal) and that view hasn't changed.
Give me a gallon any day, even if the American gallon is smaller than the imperial gallon. I would rather weigh 176lbs than 80kg. 12 stone 8lb I used to drink pints of beer.
Gimme a penny for your thoughts ?

I was brought up on the imperial system. Love it. It's got soul. "He stood 6 foot 6 and weighed 245. Big John." It just wouldn't have the same soul if, "He stood 198.12 centimeters and weighed 111.13 kilograms.

Damn right. The old ad...…"I'd walk 1.60934 kilometres for a Camel" just doesn't have that ring to it either.
And hey ! Grunt's oft-saying "I continue to kilogram the table for etc...…." is near-incomprehensible. Didn't the PTB work all that out before they changed some things and let others rest ?
Time and dimensions are still based on 12 and 60 I'm afraid, and they had to leave it that way, otherwise we'd have a 10 hour half-day instead of 12, and 100 minutes per hour. Get outa here !
Can you imagine complaining that you had been standing all day, and your Point Three-oh-four-eights are killing you ?

Or how 'bout.... "I'd walk a kilometer for one of your smiles, Mammy!"

Bloody awful isn't it !?
"Moon river, wider than 1609.34 metres, I'm crossing you in style.... No romance in it at all, Bruce.
They haven't got 28.3495 grams of common sense.
We need to put our Point three-oh-four-eight down, I'm telling you. Next thing we'll be getting our Towser back from the dog-kilogram if we're not careful.

Yeah, sorry I meant an imperial gallon. 1 litre/kg is almost exactly 1 US pint/lb, again a remarkable coincidence.

Don't make me scoff, why would you say he weighed 245 when you could say he weighed 17 and a half stone? That's much move convenient.

If I heard someone was 6 foot 6 and 245lbs I'd think, I can outrun him easily. But if I heard they were 17 and a half stone I would have no idea what that was. It sounds light so I would have a different mindset.
