My wife and I were in Mexico City during week 1 of the swine flu episode. I had been warned about how polluted Mexico City was and how terrible the traffic.
Because of the swine flu, I experienced just the opposite during our week visit. The skies were blue and the traffic so light that I was able to J-walk across a busy Avenida. I remember surmising from my observations and experiences that week that if you want to control a nation, create a pandemic.
Someone recently said this Coronavirus is an epidemic but the fear people have makes it a fear pandemic.
History repeats itself for me and my Mexico City experience from more than a dozen years ago.

In 1973 I was in college and had my only case of the flu. It was a variant of the Hong Kong flu. I was so out of it I took a final and had no recollection of taking it. Maybe I would have done better in school if I was in a stupor for all my tests. The 3 years before I retired, I had pneumonia 2 out of the 3 years after just regular colds. I have been retired 7 years and have not had anything other than a cold since. But the fact that I experienced the pneumonia twice makes me a little paranoid that the old immune system ain’t what it used to be. I don’t look at the Coronavirus any different than I do for the regular flu.
What I am trying to figure out is why they tell you to cough into your elbow and then they are telling us to do the elbow bump as a greeting.

As this thread feeds the fire of chronic stress and hysteria with "news" of big, bad flu, some questions have occurred to me: How many members here remember the "Swine Flu"? How about "Ebola"? "Zika"? "SARS"? These were major outbreaks, right? (Oh, but this one is MUCH worse. ) How many of you had one of the above? Anyone you personally know had them? Any of those die? Yeah, that's what I thought. None of us have a way of validating any of the current hoopla. The stories are being told in the usual sensational way, with intimations to make it sound really bad. Like the Chinese doctor that died (I think at the Wuhan facility) during this circus. I haven't read anywhere that the flu killed him, but the story is obviously told in a way to imply that. Mr. P The difference is that none you mentioned had a long ramp up. You get SARS and in a couple of days you feel like absolute shit, you're not out at the ballgame or club giving it to others. Governments did not take the measures for those that they are for this. Real doctors are driving those decisions. The countries that are making the most draconian measures are doing the best to slow, not stop, simply slow the growth. Slowing this down matters. There will be a range of responses from "The Sky is Falling" to "Nothing to Worry About". What I'm going by is the bell curve distribution of reaction on that continuum. The measures being employed in places with large scale infections and the speed of time in which they went from a few cases to large scale infections tells me this is serious. In one month or probably less, we're going to know which viewpoint was right. All of our lives we've heard of sicknesses that are really bad. This one seems to be living up to it's billing far more than the others. But, "it's just the flu". Countries stop flights, and close borders, close universities, close schools, cancel large events, play fanless sports, isolate thousands of people all the time for "just the flu". "This happens every year. " I disagree. None here may catch it or worse yet die, but I will be super surprised if none here catch it. And yes, it's well known and accepted that the doctor in China that first reported this virus is dead as a result of having it. That is not conjecture or rumor, it was all over the news. Or is this ALL fake news?

Just read that the Chinese are successfully treating the virus with (IV) vitamin C. Gee, who woulda thought? Vitamin C for the flu! Revolutionary! Thanks for the info Mikey, and this is why I supplement.... From an article I found: healthimpactnews.com/2020/coronavirus-patients-in-china-to-be-treated-with-high-dose-vitamin-c-in-new-clinical-trial/"To fight a dangerous virus for which there is no existing medical treatment, you must rely on your own immune system. It is well established, in every nutrition textbook ever written, that you need vitamin C to make your immune system work well, or to even work at all. Inadequate vitamin C intake is a worldwide problem that can be immediately and economically fixed. With even modest amounts of supplemental vitamin C, deaths will decrease. In one study, a mere 200 mg of vitamin C/day resulted in an 80% decrease in deaths among severely ill, hospitalized respiratory disease patients." Source: [Hunt C et al. Don't be stubborn, take your vitamins !!!
orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/v16n04.shtmlThe physicians of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service and the International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine urge a nutrient-based method to prevent or minimize symptoms for future viral infection. The following inexpensive supplemental levels are recommended for adults; for children reduce these in proportion to body weight: Vitamin C: 3,000 milligrams (or more) daily, in divided doses. Vitamin D3: 2,000 International Units daily. (Start with 5,000 IU/day for two weeks, then reduce to 2,000) Magnesium: 400 mg daily (in citrate, malate, chelate, or chloride form) Zinc: 20 mg daily Selenium: 100 mcg (micrograms) daily ***I would also humbly recommend 12mg Astaxanthin daily to the vitamin regimen above

I've never had a Vitamin C IV, but I take it in a liposomal C capsule form. Normally 3G to 4 G/ day, but if feel anything like flu, I'll be increasing that. I'll also add more ACV, echinacea, iodine and eat lots of kraut (fermented veggies) and fruit like blueberries, apple and pineapple.

I think all the constant bombardment of media attention to this shit will cause people to have more chronic stress, which will not only make them sick, but can kill them. It doesn't even deserve this thread, IMO.
What? Me worry? No thanks.

So how long does a Coronavirus infection last? I searched until I was blue in the face. I can't be the only one who would like to know. With all the thousands who have recovered, you'd think those stats would be somewhere. I finally found one detailed case where a patient was sick for 16 days until he was in the final stages of recovery. I don't know if this is typical. I don't know if it varies. I've read that the infection is mild in some and severe in others, but God forbid there should be any time information. I just read an article that said globally half the cases half been recovered from. Didn't say how long on average tho.

Yes, and most of those recoveries are from China where people have been infected the longest. I noted the date and time of the one Kansas appearance. I'll monitor it and see when he/she (hopefully!) recovers.
