Time-tested Coronavirus joke that generates a laugh every time I've used it this week. Generally gets shared in toilet paper discussions.
"I've got plenty of toilet paper and my toilet paper portfolio increased in value the past two weeks as did the value of my cemetery plots. They offset the value decline in my retirement accounts so I'm even."

Two good things here the UK :
- I'm having to work from home, which is a challenge (I work in IT support at a college). The good thing is I can spend most of the day in my PJs, only getting dressed when I go out to the shed to lift my wieghts. The gym is closed, as is my dance classes. Got to keep the body in shape.
- I live opposite a building of oap flats. Even though I work full time, and I'm not here much in the day, there are regular visits from ambulances. Sadly, in the 18 years I've been here, there have been a few deaths. There hasn't been an ambulance in a couple of weeks. They are keeping themselves well. One chap is keeping to his weekly ritual of checking the oil, etc on his car, and washing it. He doesn't actually drive it, just sits in it. I'm chatting to the folk when I see them, like I always do. Spirits are very high.

I can't imagine being told not to work and having to bear the financial cost directly. Most of the UK is either furloughed, or wanking from home.

I got told this one from another grandfather who like me picks his grandkids up from school, before we were separated by circumstance...…
"Why is so much toilet paper being bought in the supermarket ? Because when someone coughs, dozens of people shit themselves...……."

Fortunately, we still have people making deliveries. Brave souls. And, kudos to the people who are in contact, trying to help out. God bless them! I pray that they don't endanger their own families, thinking of the older folks and those with bad health issues already. I'm still not worried about getting this bug and not worried about surviving if I do, but I don't want to add to anyone else's stress and don't really want to be sick either, so I'm just hanging out and doing my thing in my own space. Kinda nice, really, to chill with my family.

Delivering blood to hospitals across 3 states I get my temp taken 3-5 times daily and a standard series of questions asked of me at each one. Things are getting better as the screeners are getting more practiced and the word is out that no visitors are currently allowed other than one for a limited time for birth or end of life events so they no longer have to turn people away and piss them off. I keep all my stickers and wristbands they give me to show I've been cleared back to our hub and call them my campaign ribbons.

I heard on the mid-day news an hour ago that America has now got the most cases in the world, more than Italy. The Prez sez everything is okay though.

I have two cousins that work in hospitals one is a nurse and one a radiologist
Here's something they wrote me via email. You might find it interesting/scary/sobering/helpful/i dunno
The radiologist: It took exactly one week for our hospital to go from “We have plenty of PPE” to “You can only use N95 respirators for aerosolized cases (and they will be under lock and key).”
The nurse: Hard to say what kind of exposure our wing has had this past weekend. Our cardiac/pulm wing is the runway from Elevators (from ED) to ICU and PCU with BiPaps running or some pts already intubated there was a fair amount of aerosolyzing in the air. No N95 or Paprs for us to use that are not directly treating COVID pt. Just regular masks with eye shields to use. CDC says only masks which is likely due to the mask, n95, PAPR shortage. We were told to keep pts doors closed and nurses station closed when people transported past us. Hospital stated Mon that we have plenty of all types of masks so we are not to worry but we cannot wear N95 masks unless directly caring for COVID patient AND doing an aerosolyzing procedures such as intubation, nebulizers, or suctioning . WHO & Research data says we should be wearing them at all times until pt proven neg. We cannot wear masks as a prophylactic either. Supposedly it leads to pts having less confidence in their health care. Debatable.
Such grim times for everyone. I'm tired of biological/medically uneducated people saying its no different than the flu. Instead of going into the details, I just say "how much is the life of your loved one worth to you?" If it is your son/daught/mom/dad/sibling/spouse that needs a ventilator and its not available, what will you say then. Its heartbreaking to hear the drs and nurses describe having to decide who gets a ventilator and who doesn't in Italy and Spain and likely NY. And everyone can quit worrying about hand sanitizer, just wash hands and keep fingers out of your eyes and mouth! After we become more aware of it....Easier said than done:-)
On a bright note my state's governor seems to have a good plan. Flatten the curve, but also realize that it won't be enough, use the time you buy with the flattening to build up healthcare. They are turning large sport venues into field hospitals and some local companies are working with Ford et al on the ventilator production.
