We just had our first confirmed case here locally, about 10 miles from my house. The hospital he sought treatment at routinely sends clients to the facility I work at. It can happen that fast. The death rate of coronavirus is estimated at 3.4% by the World Health Organization, and that of the Spanish flu of 1918 was 2-3%, conservative estimates are that 25 millions people died...and that was before international plane travel. The sky isn't falling, but the pillars ain't what they used to be.

I think one of the main problems is that people can walk around for two weeks after becoming infected, before feeling unwell.
That means two weeks of travel, interaction with X numbers of other people etc. It's a huge ask for those tasked with trying to warn and if necessary isolate the people (including aircraft crews and fellow-workers etc) just for a single case. The resources being utilized, help desk staffing 24/7 and ambulance personnel is daunting.
We've only got five cases here in NZ so far, but one of the cases has been in contact with 43 other health professionals before detection, so they are all in self-isolation for the next 14 days. That has to have a big impact on staffing in the hospital.
As far a the cruise liner in Japan is concerned, it seems to me that it acted as much as an incubator as an isolation unit.
I've had near-lifelong asthma but I'm not particularly worried. If I cop it, tough luck. There's a whole lot of poor souls out there that are already not with us any more, even the doctor that blew the whistle (and got into trouble from the Chinese authorities for it).

Cases have appeared in Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Illinois.

Well, look on the bright side. The Black Death was an enormous stimulus to the economy. If your boss kicks the bucket, you could get promoted.

Recent studies have shown that people who use that Hook have superior immune systems and exceptional nerve force.

And we're running a bit ahead of schedule. The doubling time of cases in the US is closer to two days than 2.5 in that graphic I posted before I think chaos is on it's way. Hope you are stocked up and ready to avoid the crowds. I think many of us here are in the age group (50+) where it is of greater concern. And Macky is precisely correct on why this shit is do dangerous. A victim spreads it far and wide before they know they are infected. If this made everyone who got it really sick within a day, it would burn itself out quickly. This one is burning in the opposite direction. We are all going to be impacted in some fashion.

So how long does a Coronavirus infection last? I searched until I was blue in the face. I can't be the only one who would like to know. With all the thousands who have recovered, you'd think those stats would be somewhere. I finally found one detailed case where a patient was sick for 16 days until he was in the final stages of recovery. I don't know if this is typical. I don't know if it varies. I've read that the infection is mild in some and severe in others, but God forbid there should be any time information.

We're sitting at 416 in the U.S. at this moment. That's exactly 100 new confirmed since I started watching the tally 24 hours ago.

Well I would like to know how long it would be before I can whack-off again.
