Sardines ( roughly 4oz) are a good choice for those of us who follow a modest amount of protein diet .

They are yummy. I have them on salads once in awhile. That's delicious, especially with olive oil. I eat more tuna than sardines though.

I prefer tinned mackerel but love fresh sardines.

I like canned salmon (Wild Planet), sardines (also Wild Planet) and, a recent tasty find, All Natural Smoked Wild Kippers by Bar Harbor, all three items are available at Walmart. I buy these because, if they have the one additional ingredient beyond the fish and some salt, they are packed in water.

Here in the northwest part of the USA, fresh wild salmon is available nearly all year, and it's a lot cheaper than it is in other parts of the country. We consider other forms of salmon to be a lower form of life. However, I do confess to having canned sardines one or two times a week, getting sardine tins in bulk at the local Costco here in Tacoma, Washington (State).

Too bad the Costco sardines are boneless and skinless
