Dr. Schwartz' Pan-X was essentially a chin + dip/pushup rack which also allows one to use it for balance when squatting as he had described it to me during one of our many interviews. I mentioned that there are workout towers that are now being sold with this design & I suggested he look at some of the fitness stores or on line and he'd see what I was referring to -- he was a bit surprised but pleased. However, Dr. Schwartz was doing non-stop cycles through his workouts vs. resting between sets. www.google.com/patents/US4932653 (Picture of the design on this site) I've still got a few VHS copies of Dr. Schwartz' Heavyhands Basics video (with the lovely Judy Shasek and Tom Auble) and the Isotonometrics video (it was a Time Life video called Fitness for Seniors). There were also a couple of knock offs when a company tried to revive HHs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuhC0XbkaIA) which Dr. Schwartz was not very pleased with. However, we both agreed there was a model in the Heavyhands Yoga video that made the workout worth watching. I'd suggested to Dr. Schwartz instead of the handclasp, get a small weighted ball try that option, but, slow down the moves/use a little more tension. I have personally as of late considered isotonometrics and synergetics supersystems..as they truly incorporate all components of fitness in a timely effecient manner and they feel real good..I personally think they may be even more adaptable than heavyhands and feel..dr schwartz philosophy and applications make some of the most sense I have ever come across..I have the fitness for seniors vhs and made a digital transfer so maybe i can find a way to upload it for all to see..very rarely do i do isolation work srs anymore... What were your experiences with it

I have the isotonometrics video, basically, the upper body movement involves moving clasped hands across the body using various grips (ie one hand on top of the other with one hand pulling, hands vertical with palms facing each other and pushing with one hand while resisting with the others etc etc) you can see a poor video copy on youtube - its called whole body fitness for seniors

What were your experiences with it Lately, I use HHs to warm up for my regular workouts or I want to break up my same old, same old workouts. I once posted, "On a personal note, I have used Dr. Schwartz’s methods since seeing him on TV in 1982 with the biceps of a bodybuilder, describing a new form of training called Panaerobics. As a runner at the time, the Heavyhands multi-limb approach soon helped me lower my resting heart rate from the mid 40s to 30 and achieve new PRs at 5k and 10k races with no untoward impact on my joints." |

Dr Len has had a lasting influence on my approach to exercise : nonstop ,strength , endurance , total body workouts . His isotonometrics can be likened to John Hughes' isomotion . Lately, I've used a 10# weight plate with built-in handles as a hand clasp replacement . Heavier weight plates with the handles also work nicely .

Dr. Schwartz said the movements by the individuals in the video weren't smooth nor did they flow like he'd demonstrated in the original HHs video. A little too herky-jerky, not really showing what he intended. And if you can find the HHs Yoga video, he said the individuals in the workout were holding the handles upside down.  |

Maybe they had a falling out? Only seen bits of the yoga one on a very poor copy on youtube so can't comment on that |

Judy did a video called Abaerobics (?) with the help of Gin Miller (the woman who created the Reebok Step program) and yes, there was a small falling out as a result. If you look at the third HHs book from Dr. Schwartz, there was a section on training the core that Schwartz developed and subsequently Judy created workout/video based 100% on Schwartz' program. In addition, Shasek used another name for her business and was found out for it...Kate B- something. Story is Shasek had hurt her knee or had knee surgery and was restricted from spending a lot of time on her feet, so, she allegedly came up with this idea on ab training. There were short segments from the video on the web for a while, but, I'd have to do some digging to see if they're still around as I don't remember the correct title of the video. Hey Grunt , i think you did squat /rowing combinations using a suspension trainer ,is that correct? Your post about the weight plates with handles reminded me of a couple of Smartbells i bought years ago,they have handles and are curved 2 ways to kind of fit the body.I just used them as a weight with handles and basically did normal exercises but they were too light.I don't know if they ever really took off ,the designer was a wrestler and emphasized circular ,flowing and freestlyle movements and not to underestimate the light ones. Just dug them out and think they would be ideal for this ,you can move and pull or push at the same time.One is 8 pound and one 15 , both quite light but the 8 is more flowing.  |
