One of the "hackers" or out of box thinkers in the area of training and dietary ideas that I love to read up on is Ben Greenfield. A lot of product plugs in his stuff, but, a ton of good information included. This isometrics discussion includes a lot of interesting information with actual science to back it, no "off the charts" claims, etc. A couple of items stood out like: - The 12% gain in size with the approach discussed, which is much briefer than Drew's and doesn't involve "three point" isometrics. - Why "skill" training (and mobility) are still recommended along with the isometric strength training for athletes, etc. (Depends on your goals...) - I've posted this information on small range of motion from Pete Sisco's site in a previous post, but, the chiro discusses this as well: bengreenfieldfitness.com/transcripts/transcript-how-isometric-training-works/

Hey Texas I don't have time to read this now, I'll read it at a later time, Thanks for posting. I'm curious what he says about mobility training with isometrics. I personally find isometrics work better with some movement training.

... I personally find isometrics work better with some movement training. ...and vice versa. Isometric exercises help to tolerate higher levels of voluntary dynamic tension and, thus, substantially increase the efficiency of dynamic self-resistance training.

Clearly to maximize isometric contractions , construct your "isociser" to maximize comfort; pain will minimize intensity . A diy hip belt or even one from Ironmind will allow you to comfortably achieve a max lower body contraction . Similarly some sort of a dip belt will do the job for the upper body(note a dip belt can function as a hip belt)

In general, reading this long podcast transcript is a waste of time (just my personal opinion). Nothing new.

Bob, No clue what you're referring to. Please provide a reference. I have no time for that. If you want, make the search, and you will find your posts or just dig into your memory.

Yes, you have plenty of time. If you're going to make a statement, you need to have a reference to back your claim(s) otherwise you should probably be posting on JP's site. They don't require objective references.

He's a super self-experimenter, so, yeah, he gets into shit I would not even consider. Listen with filter set to "ON".

I watched a couple of Greenfield Youtube videos. That guy is all over the map. He's a "hacker" of the kind people like Dave Asprey or Tim Ferriss could only wish to emulate. Muscle biopsies...ice vests...high fat diets...Spartan competition...never the same old stuff. His book Beyond Training has some excellent science on sane prep for endurance athletics and what worked for him when he was into strength training.
